Filmmaker Heddy Honigmann Honored at Hot Docs

Wednesday, April 25-Sunday, April 29

First Run/Icarus Films, one of North America’s leading distributors of documentary films, is pleased to announce that its newest acquisition, Heddy Honigmann’s critically-acclaimed, award-winning feature documentary, FOREVER, will receive its Canadian premiere screenings on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival.

FOREVER, which takes the viewer on a tour of the world-famous Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, the final resting place for legendary writers, composers, painters and other artists from around the world, provides an unusually poignant, emotionally powerful meditation on relations between the living and the dead, and the immortal power of art. Deborah Young, writing in Variety, has called FOREVER “mesmerizing… one of [Honigmann’s] most accomplished and expressive works.”

In a special Hot Docs Awards Presentation, on Friday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Theatre, Heddy Honigmann will be honored with the prestigious “Hot Docs Outstanding Achievement Award,” presented annually in recognition of a filmmaker’s enduring contribution to the documentary form.

This year’s Hot Docs Festival will also feature a retrospective program of Honigmann’s documentaries, including such titles as Metal and Melancholy (1993), O Amor Natural (1996), The Underground Orchestra (1997), 2 Minutes Silence, Please (1998), Crazy (1999), Good Husband, Dear Son (2001), and Dame la Mano (2003).

Immediately after Hot Docs, Honigmann will fly to San Francisco, where the San Francisco International Film Festival will present Honigmann its “San Francisco Film Society’s Golden Gate Persistence of Vision Award,” which honors “the lifetime achievement of a filmmaker whose work is crafting documentaries, short films, animation or work for television.”

FOREVER, winner of the Full Frame Inspiration Award at the 2007 Full Frame Documentary Festival, the Ecumenical Jury Award at the 2006 Leipzig Film Festival, the Dutch Film Critics Award as “Best Film in 2006,” and Best Feature Documentary at the 2006 Utrecht Film Festival, will be released throughout North America by First Run/Icarus Films, and is set for a September theatrical opening at Film Forum in New York.
