Map of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire

Map of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire

Strange Maps has posted this map from Leslie’s Weekly, drawn by H.M. Pettit. Its full title is:

Destruction of One of the Greatest Modern Cities. Bird’s-Eye view of Stricken San Francisco, Showing the Burned District, Covering Twenty-Five Square Miles, With the Most Prominent Places and Buildings Carefully Indicated.

Pretty wild stuff. For an in-depth exploration of that disaster, we highly recommend Simon Winchester’s A Crack in the Edge of the World, available as a book or audiobook. Damn–the hardback of his book is going for $7 at Amazon as I write this. Any book by Winchester is good for that matter.
