English Drunkie Wins 5 Grammys

Amy Winehouse

Sometimes it's hard to keep a bad girl down. Such was the case Sunday night with the Grammys.

Banned in the USA, nominee Amy Winehouse was forced to keep it together long enough to perform "You Know I’m No Good" and watch the Grammys from London, bloody early in the UK morning, via satellite.

But staying up late is not a problem for the tabloid soulstress who scored five Grammy wins including wins for record of the year, best new artist, song of the year, best pop vocal album and female best pop vocal performance. Fortunately "being flat out crazy" was not a Grammy category.

The story is the stuff that critics oogle for: an artist in rehab singing about not going to rehab. However Winehouse had the last laugh on Sunday night.

Winehouse's night was the stuff of epic dramas. As the press wondered if she would go crazy, rip on anyone or even stand up straight, Winehouse rose above the fray and even got her mum involved in the act. In the end, Winehouse's in-person no show worked to her advantage because her handlers could control every aspect of her performance and acceptance speeches without worrying if she would vomit on the person sitting next to her or tripping on her way to the stage to collected her schwag.

Morally they knew she was no good, but critically she was golden.
