Uncontacted Amazon Tribe in Peril

What you’re seeing there are members of an unknown Amazon basin tribe, photographed from the air. They’re menacing the aircraft with bows and arrows. They’re one of more than one hundred uncontacted tribes left in the world, apparently. And by uncontacted we mean no interaction with the modern world, and not simply groups or individuals who have had contact in the past and are now cut off from the modern world–such as Top 40 radio and people who still carry pagers.

Tribes such as this are endangered, not only from illegal logging, but also aluminum siding salesmen and the spontaneous generation of Starbucks locations, which the tribes normally burn to the ground before the stores can achieve full maturity and start shilling CDs.
