Stuff You Need to Know: David Tennant is Hamlet, Brad Pitt’s a Bastard

  • Beetlejuice‘s 20th Anniversary edition hits regular DVD on September 16th (pre-order yours here) and gets Blu-Ray flavored on October 7th (pre-order yours here). Remastered and with three episodes of the animated series. My favorite line below:

  • [ad#rightpost]

  • They’re making The Conversation (1974, Gene Hackman, Coppola) into a television series for AMC. Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects) and Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers) are scribing. Here’s the interesting bit–they’ve been trying to do this for about ten years: at ABC in 2006, two other places before that, and…at NBC with Kyle MacLachlan attached to star back in 1995. The story will stay the same and will be set in the 70s. Can we get a Hackman cameo? Bonus points for that. Source: Hollywood Reporter.
  • Daredevil: The Director’s Cut is hitting Blu-Ray on September 30th. Do you think if the filmmakers watch it in hi-def they’ll finally achieve clarity on how they screwed up the film? Yeah, me neither. You can pre-order yours here.
  • Futurama: Bender’s Game, the third direct to video feature, hits from Fox on DVD and Blu-Ray November 7th. No pre-order available yet.
  • Godfather II Game

  • The Godfather II is hitting from EA in February for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Other consoles will probably follow later next year. It’s the second movie’s plot but without the flashback sequences. Pacino and Coppola are not involved, Robert Duvall is. It’s all about the money, as it should be: “Paramount’s long-term deal with EA allows the publisher to continue making more games if the sequel performs better than the original, as is common for successful videogame franchises.” One interesting bit from the article: a Dirty Harry video game has been in the works for years from Warner Brothers. And an Every Which Way But Loose game has been put on hold as well because people keep fighting over who gets to play Clyde. I made that last part up.
  • The aforementioned “Brad Pitt might be joining Inglorious Bastards” thing? Strike the might. “Pitt’s character is a Southern rebel who leads a band of eight American-Jewish soldiers as they exact vengeance on Nazis in German-occupied France.” So now all the headlines can BRAD PITT, BASTARD and they’re sort of immune from complaints. Also in talks are Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz (Numb3rs), and Nastassja Kinski. Source: Hollywood Reporter.
  • David Tennant‘s Hamlet appears, for the most part, to kick some major ass. Let’s hope they release a filmed version of the stage production.
