32 Days of Halloween II, Day 5: The Cask of Amontillado

Bela Lugosi in the Suspense episode, The Cask of Amontillado

Rox again is rocking with the Halloween vids. Here’s an episode of Suspense from 1949 updating Edgar Allan Poe‘s The Cask of Amontillado. That’s Romney Brent in the role of Montresor and Bela Lugosi as Fortunato. And yes, that’s Ray Walston as one of the American GIs. It’s almost endearing how much like a high school drama production this is. Hell, it’s worth watching for the Auto Lite sponsorship commercial at the beginning. Although I sorta can’t forgive them for leaving out my favorite line.

This episode is available on Suspense: The Lost Episodes, Collection 2 from Infinity Entertainment.

The show was based on a radio program of the same name. You can find it on the Internet Archive as well. The blog Escape and Suspense! features this show as well as the show Escape, if the name didn’t already give that away.
