Stuff You Need to Know: Really Useful, That YouTube

Frederick B. Owens as Caiaphas from Jesus Christ Superstar

  • Update: Apparently Amazon has some Wiis in stock for today only–they won’t let me link directly to the product, so here’s the Video Games page. You can navigate to it from there. Good luck.
  • Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Really Useful Company has followed hard upon the Pythons by kicking off a YouTube channel with various and sundry bits. Here’s my favorite of the bunch so far: from the 2000 film version of Jesus Christ Superstar (original film version reviewed here; recent tour version reviewed here) , featuring a ridiculously basstastic Frederick B. Owens as Caiaphas:

  • When last we mentioned Jack Black’s Brutal Legend, it didn’t have a publisher after Activision dropped it. Now it’s at EA. It’s due out next fall. Source: Variety.

  • A Christmas Story the musical? Apparently so. It’s going to have two readings next week with Beau Bridges presumably in the role of the Old Man. Source: Variety.
  • Whoopi Goldberg will star in and executive produce the six-part miniseries Strange for FEARnet.com. It’s dubbed as a sci-fi piece. No relation to the British series, apparently. Source: Variety.
  • Trevor Nunn (Cats) has a production of Sondheim‘s A Little Night Music in London…which could find itself in the West End and then later on Broadway. I’m good with that–I’ve never seen it staged. And any Sondheim is good for me, thanks. Source: Variety.
  • New Moon has a director: Chris Weitz (Golden Compass). Production will begin ASAP (considering the box office perf of the first film–approaching $200M worldwide) to be released ASAP (see above notation). Melissa Rosenberg is returning to scribe the sequel. Anyone taking bets on a fifth book in the series? Source: Variety.
  • Apparently the sad bastards in the legacy media in the UK are trying to nail Graham Norton for making a crack about the looks of Camilla Parker-Bowles, which is Mrs. Prince Charles to our friends not in the know on this side of the pond. Which just shows how pathetic this is getting, since I can’t think of a comedian who hasn’t made a crack like that. Kudos to Chortle for even coming up with a CNN-esque “Comedy Witch Hunt” graphic.
