The Adjustment Bureau, based on the Philip K. Dick story “Adjustment Team,” has George Nolfi (Bourne 3) on board to scribe and helm with Matt Damon attached as well. No studio yet. It’s the story of “a man who discovers that his reality is, in effect, a giant soundstage controlled and manipulated by mysterious guardians.” The only way to make that story idea more terrifying is that it’s a greenscreen soundstage. And he also learns that his reality is directed by Robert Zemeckis and every person in his life is mo-capped by Tom Hanks. With Andy Serkis in the only other live action role. My idea’s rapidly descending into the horror genre, isn’t it? Source.

In an attempt to ruin my week, Warner Brothers has tapped Peter Baynham (frequent scribe with Sacha Baron Cohen) to write the planned Russell Brand-starring remake of Arthur. Apparently Brand is reprising his role from Sarah Marshall, Aldous Snow, in a film next year called Get Him to the Greek. No good can come of any of this. Source.

We’ve had plenty of examples of what I call the Volcano/Dante’s Peak effect, where two studios will, from out of the seeming blue, be working on extraordinarily similarly themed films at the same time. But…I’ve never seen it from a title perspective. Case in point, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are attached to The B Team for Adam McKay (Step Brothers) to helm and co-write with Chris Henchy (the upcoming Land of the Lost). Do I really have to say why this could be seen as a problem? They’re ready to film this sucker as soon as they get a script–there isn’t one, they apparently picked it up on a pitch. The article makes it seem like this is novel for Wahlberg, but he has been in an action comedies before, like The Big Hit and, of course, Planet of the Apes. That couldn’t be why they renamed “Adjustment Team,” could it? Naw.

A remake movie of the musical Damn Yankees is in the works with Jim Carrey as the devil and Jake Gyllenhaal as his “client.” Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (City Slickers) are scribing and the producers are the same people who brought you the Hairspray musical movie. They tried to do this previously at Miramax but it fell through. Source.

Fans of the movie Cemetery Man, take note: the primary source material for that film–the Italian comic Dylan Dog which was reprinted in America by Dark Horse–is being made into Dead of Night, which started production this week in New Orleans. Brandon Routh (Superman Lives) is starring. Kevin Munroe (scribe on TMNT) is at the helm and Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sound of Thunder) scribed. Source.

IDW is going to be publishing the complete Family Circus, starting in November. The original, not other versions we might have seen (and celebrated). I’ll try to keep an eye out for pre-order notices. Source.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II is hitting July 15, 2011, after Part I hits the previous November. Also, Sherlock Holmes has been pushed back to Christmas Day from November 1st. Source.

A new NeverEnding Story? Perhaps. The very earliest inkling of a remake has entered the minds of producers, which means that every single better children’s film in the Warner Brothers library is probably further along in the remake process. Which also means that Warner Brothers is eyeing the aforementioned end of their Harry Potter franchise with dread, much like NBC was trying to figure out WTF to do when Friends ended. Me, I thought the movie lived up to its name even when I saw it as a kid. So you guys have fun with that. Source.

In a move that should surprise approximately no one: Total Recall remake is in negotiations. This after Dimension snagged the rights with the thought of doing a sequel, which never materialized them. Then they went to Miramax, then they went to Columbia, and here we are. Did I miss where we had run out of films of the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s to remake, so now we’re back to mining the 80s? When the hell did this happen? Source.
