Win Akira from Yamato Toys!

Akira from Yamato Toys, designed by Dorian Cleavenger

Yamato Toys USA has yet another excellent statue. She’s called Akira and she’s based on the work of Dorian Cleavenger. Fifteen inches tall when you factor in her staff and the statue’s base.

Here’s what Yamato Toys tells us:

Enigmatic beauty. Two words used to describe the Mona Lisa, a figure which has captivated our collective imaginations for over five centuries. Now, Yamato USA is proud to offer a modern Mona Lisa whose own enigmatic beauty will captivate us for centuries to come… AKIRA.

Inspired by the work of renowned artist Dorian Cleavenger and sculpted by Plant-jzero Moekichi, Akira is the first piece in Yamato USA’s Fantasy Figure Gallery. The Fantasy Figure Gallery is a groundbreaking union of East and West as the leading sculptors of Asia deliver the worlds of legendary fantasy artists from Europe and the Americas as only they are capable. But what’s more, these gorgeous, resin-quality fantasy figures are made affordable for all through advanced PVC technology. Take for example, Akira.

Standing at an impressive 10.50″, 15.00″ with her ornamental staff and themed display base, Akira is constructed of over 100 individual pieces and features over 400 paint applications, twice the conventional statue. The result: a gallery quality piece of such lavish detail that it surpasses the expectations of even the artist himself. And as her soft, enigmatic features draw you in and take your breath away, you will know why we liken her to a modern Mona Lisa.

I’m a bit surprised they’re able to sell her for $98. That’s impressive.

This also has a safety warning on it: “This product is intended for adult collectors only. It may contain sharp points, small parts which are choking hazards, and / or other materials or elements not suitable for children under 15 years of age.” And yes, there are parts of the statue that are, you know, not covered. Not that I expect anybody to have a problem with that since we’re all adults–or at least physically we are–but I felt I must bring it up.

For more views of the statue, you can check out the Yamato Toys website here. And the main Yamato site is here.

And for the artist, Dorian Cleavenger, you can check out his website here.

  • DH would adore this — he could put it atop his computer to menace the dinosaurs who threaten the lighthouses up there. 61 years old, no tots here.
