Cinematic Titanic Live, Part 2: Danger on Tiki Island

Danger on Tiki Island

As promised in my previous report on the first evening’s entertainment where Cinematic Titanic brought their madness live to the stage, there was a second evening of movie riffing. And seriously, people who are still awaiting the tour to hit your hometown or somewhere nearby: do both nights. That is my advice to you.

Because as funny as the crew tackling East Meets Watts was…well, let me put it to you this way. Joel revealed when they finished mauling the movie that this was their first time on Tiki Island–and if this was a rough draft, then when this show finally makes it to DVD, it will go down as a classic in riffdom. I do not make this claim lightly. But we were laughing our asses off pretty much non-stop. And with the audience being even more engaged than the previous crowd, it was like an ever-increasing whirlwind of hilarity. And you could tell the crew on stage were happy with the results. We in the audience were freaking ecstatic.

[ad#longpost]Another note: while you had two movies and obviously the main event would be differing from night to night, I wondered if the opening bits would be the same between the two nights. Yes and no. Sure, Frank’s cartoon theme song was the same, as was Josh and Gruber tackling ADD radio, but the haikus were different, some of the banter was different…it was enough that I didn’t feel like I was watching a total rerun. And the bits repeated were funny enough that I didn’t mind hearing them again. Frank’s song was so mental that I tried to remember some of the lyrics to share with you–but hearing him shout the nonsensical chorus just sort of wipes your brain.

So check out their tour schedule and how to get tickets…and just make a weekend out of it. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

  • I was there for both nights. Loved it. The crazed tree that looked like a duck was hilarious.

I don’t think they did the ADD radio the second night. They did Josh and Chris Bliss juggling and singing the Fatboy Slim song.

I’m so glad I found your site. Great stuff.

  • Sounds like they changed stuff up for their later shows. Fantastic. Glad you caught both nights. And thanks for the kind words. We’re glad you found us too. We’ve been hoping you’d arrive. :-)
