Stuff: Night of the Living Dead. Yes, Again.

Night of the Living Dead: Origins

There’s lots going on in the world of pop culture. Even on weekends. So while you’re getting ready for your work week, fret not about this nonsense. We got it covered.

  • ThinkGeek‘s tauntaun sleeping bags are back in stock. So if you want to snag one, do that thing.
  • Threadless is having a $9 sale tomorrow only. So take advantage if you didn’t before.
  • Night of the Living Dead: Origins is “a 3D CGI re-imagining” of the original film. Which makes it the third remake thus far. Oy. Bill Moseley (Otis from the Rob Zombie films) is voicing Johnnie (the role he had in the 1990 remake, which was directed by Tom Savini). Joe Pilato is on board to voice Harry–and yes, that’s the same Pilato who was Capt. Rhodes in Day of the Dead (although the article mentions him being in Dawn–which he was, sure, but mostly in a cut scene if I remember correctly–I’ve seen all the versions way too many times to remember). The helmer, first-timer Zebediah de Soto, says “It’s going to be the first zombie movie played on a epic scale. This is the Empire of the Sun of zombie films.” Well, I can say this: at least Zemeckis isn’t doing it mo-cap. We can be thankful for that much.

And you might well ask–wasn’t somebody already doing an animated version of the film? Yes, but the filmmaker’s blog hasn’t had a related update since. So.

  • Emmet Otter‘s back if you’re anywhere near Connecticut, and it looks like it will be an annual thing, since as you recall it debuted last year. It started last night with an opening night December 16th and will run until January 3rd. For those of us who probably won’t ever be able to get anywhere near Goodspeed, here’s a pic. A DVD would be nice! I’m just saying… Source.

  • So Harvey‘s probably dead. For now. Spielberg’s out, anyway. This after he couldn’t get Tom Hanks on board (because Hanks had too much sense to take the Jimmy Stewart part) and then couldn’t get Robert Downey Jr. on board. Fox 2000 isn’t giving up and might try to get Downey and Spielberg again, the article says, but should be interesting. It’s not like Spielberg doesn’t have a full dance card to pick from.

  • The Nutcracker and the Mouse King is at New Line and is re-imagined “as an action adventure.” Oh dear. Source.
  • Race is the latest play from David Mamet (scribing and helming) which opens today on Broadway (it started previews November 16th). Here’s what Mr. M had to say: “In my play a firm made up of three lawyers, two black and one white, is offered the chance to defend a white man charged with a crime against a black young woman. It is a play about lies. All drama is about lies. When the lie is exposed, the play is over.” Starring in the play is a nice cast: James Spader, David Alan Grier, Kerry Washington (Alicia Masters in the Fantastic Four movies), and Richard Thomas (The Waltons). • Uncle Warren was not kidding when he said that Slingers is our new favorite TV show. Go see why.
