Music Monday: Shout Out Louds, Skunk Anansie, The Kooks and Hard-Fi

Shout Out Louds: Work

First up, it’s the Shout Out Louds with “Walls,” the first track from their upcoming album Work, due out February 23 from Merge Records. Video isn’t terrific, but the song is fairly catchy. And that’s what matters.

Next let’s go to a classic opening track from Skunk Anansie. It’s “Charlie Big Potato,” and important because it opens their album Post-Orgasmic Chill. It’s a great opener plus it has strings. Honestly, that’s enough to make me happy. My needs are modest.

That video seems like just a random series of images left over from the unrealized Dreamscape sequel. And…holy crap, the album is out of print. But you can get it for cheap used on Amazon. I recommend it.

And lastly, I would recommend to you the fun of the compilation Radio One Established 1967. It was a cover album with forty songs from forty years of BBC Radio 1. Is every cover successful? No, but many are quite fun. Submitted for your approval are the non-video’d covers of Ace of Base’s “All That She Wants” by The Kooks and Britney Spears’ “Toxic” by Hard-Fi. Sadly, it’s an import and not available for MP3 download, but here it is.
