Music Monday: Glenn Miller, Caribou and Flying Lotus

Rob Levy has hand picked some more music goodness for the week ahead.

We’d be very surprised if there’s anyone who doesn’t get a hint of a smile listening to The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Miller’s Greatest Hits is sure to please just about anybody. And anybody that can’t get into Glenn Miller really needs to seek therapy of some kind.

This vid of “Chatanooga Choo-Choo,” one of the tracks on that collection, is from the film Sun Valley Serenade. It’s fun because it really shows the orchestra up close doing their amazing things, and then provides two different vocal versions of the song, one with Tex Beneke and The Modernaires, and one with Dorothy Dandridge and The Nicholas Brothers (including a tap number) with the orchestra backing them.

If you’d like some Glenn Miller action, you can get it on CD, MP3 download, or even casette from Amazon. Just click on the medium of your choice. And sadly, Sun Valley Serenade does not appear to be in print on DVD, at least on Region 1.

Next up is Caribou (a. k.a. Dan Snaith), with his new album, Swim. This is the first release he’s had since he won the 2008 Polaris Prize for his album Andorra.

Here’s the single Odessa:

Amazon has Swim available on CD, vinyl, and MP3 download For your very own copy, just click the link to the medium of your choice.

And last is Flying Lotus with the new album Cosmogramma. Likened to everything from hip-hop to Hendrix, here’s a sample with the song “Recoiled”:

Cosmogramma is available from Amazon on CD, vinyl, and MP3 download. For your very own copy, just click on the medium of your choice.
