It’s Valentine’s Day. But also, very importantly, it’s Music Ministry Monday. On behalf of of myself and Need Coffee’s own Ministry of Music, Rob Levy and Tuffley, we welcome you to this post of warmth and cheer. So grab your significant other or others and snuggle up as we take a stroll down lovers lane. Because when you can’t find the words to say how you really feel, then never fear: Al Jourgensen will take the wheel and drive.
Let’s begin at the beginning: “Revenge,” a tale of young love by Ministry from their first album, With Sympathy. This is as soft as it comes–the synth stops here.

Now we come to the single from their 1986 album Twitch. It’s “Over the Shoulder.” You can hear the transition to a more love-oriented setup.

And of course, what Valentine’s Day celebration would be complete without that classic love ballad, “Stigmata,” from the album The Land of Rape and Honey. This was one of the first songs of Ministry’s I ran across, it being featured on the fantastic (and sadly out of print) soundtrack to the movie Hardware.

Next in the Ministry parade is the album The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste and the classic tale of young lovers, “Thieves.” I am depressed because there isn’t a vid of Primus performing this thing, like I saw at Lollapalooza one year. It was…legendary.

And I love Mind so we’ll throw another song in here–because there’s no first date that’s complete without serenading your date with “So What.”

And the song that had me completely hooked on the boys, that cover of a girl band 50s classic: “Jesus Built My Hotrod.” This taken from the collection of Barry White covers called Psalm 69.
