Music Monday: Fishbone, Lianne La Havas, Little Dragon & More…

More music picks for your Monday, co-curated by Dr. Rob Levy with an indirect assist by Prof. Tuffley. If you like what you hear, use the links provided to snag it for yourself from Amazon. Doing so through us gives us kickbacks, and those help pay for stuff like more bandwidth. And also so we can buy more music.

Rob sent me this–and it looks amazing. The trailer for the Fishbone docu, Everyday Sunshine. Fishbone is the truth.

For more info, screening dates and the ability to snag the DVD, you can check out the official site. Also, grab Fishbone stuff from Amazon here. It’s good and good for you.

Here’s a beautiful Black Cab Session by Lianne La Havas.

No sign of an album–at least on this side of the pond, anyway–but you can find her site here and her Twitter here.

Little Dragon: Ritual Union
Bracket: 4 Wheel Vibe

Here’s a pick from Tuffley by way of his latest Randomizer. It’s “Ritual Union” by Little Dragon as performed live on Jimmy Fallon. Just great.

It’s available…well, Tuffley got it from an EP…but there’s an album by the same name: Ritual Union. So we’ll go with that. It’s available from Amazon as an MP3 download or physical CD.

I had never heard of this band until I found it had wandered onto my iTunes at some point. It’s Bracket…and this honestly doesn’t sound like it’s from 1995. At least not to me. I thought it was a lot more recent. But it’s “Trailer Park.”

It’s from the album 4 Rare Vibes and that appears to be out of print but available on CD used for cheap from Amazon.

Rodrigo y Gabriela: Live in France
Mummers: Tale to Tell

Over to Rob again with this new release from Rodrigo y Gabriela, Live in France. This is them kicking the living shit out of “Savitri.”

It’s available from Amazon as both an MP3 download and CD.

And lastly, a bit I first heard when Ninja Bear Ravyn was DJing over on Turntable. It’s The Mummers with “Lorca and the Orange Tree.”

That’s from their album Tale to Tell, which is available on CD as an import (out of stock plus expensive) or a much more reasonable MP3 version.

  • No…….. You weren’t right. I had a finger slip the first time i posted. Then corrected it. It was made in ’95, not ’96 or any time a lot more recent, as you say. Regardless, thanks for linking.

  • Carlo, not to pick a nit, but….yes, I was. Because what I said was “and this honestly doesn’t sound like it’s from 1995. At least not to me. I thought it was a lot more recent.” So I actually didn’t say it was more recent, I didn’t say it was NOT from 1995 and was instead expressing surprise that it was a 11 year old song that just *sounded* recent. Because when I went to go look up the album it did say a 1995 release date and I triple checked that–because it didn’t sound like it was from 1995 hence the “thought it was.” So if I were the band I would take that as a compliment since a lot of music from 11 years ago sounds its age but this sounds ahead of its time.

So can we be friends now or what gives?

  • ah, sounds changes everything. my bad, Widge. I’m sure the guys would take that as a great compliment. To me, it sounds like 1995 because that’s when i first heard it, but i get your point.
