Music Monday: Dan Mangan, The Dears, Noel Gallagher & More…

More music picks for your Monday, co-curated by Rob Levy. If you like what you hear, use the links provided to snag it for yourself from Amazon. Doing so through us gives us kickbacks, and those help pay for stuff like more bandwidth. And also so we can buy more music. Just note: any prices we quote are accurate as of when this post goes up.

Dan Mangan: Robots vs. Indie Queens
Dears: Degeneration Street

[ad#shortpost]
We start with Dan Mangan and his track “Robots,” live from July of last year. I think we’ve all wanted to be the Robot King at one point or another.

That’s from his free download bundle called Robots vs. Indie Queens. Again, that’s free at the moment from Amazon.

Here’s The Dears and “Blood,” performed live last year in Mexico City. I like this because of the way it tries to hammer my skull artfully into bits.

That’s from their album Degeneration Street, available from Amazon as either a CD or MP3 download.

Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds
Cambodia Rock Spectacular! Groove Club, Vol. 2

If this is what Noel Gallagher sounds like post-Oasis, then RIP Oasis and bring it on. I much prefer this. It’s his new project, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and the first track from their self-titled album. This is “Everybody’s On the Run.”

It’s available as a deluxe edition MP3 download and CD. The deluxe edition has more tracks. Even than the CD/DVD combo. So.

Rob throws you Cambodia Rock Spectacular!: Groove Club, volumes 1-3. He tells us why: “Three albums of rock, soul and Cambodipop that defied the Khmer Rouge. Many of the artists in all three of these releases were executed by the Khmer Rouge. These songs were recorded in the most rudimentary of ways and often in secrecy.” This is “Khnyom Jah Karate” by Meas Samon & Tet Somnang, coupled with seemingly random bits from the film Chaya Ler Angkor.

The second two albums are available on CD from Amazon. No idea where the first one went.

Beat Rabbi and DeepSpace5: DeepSpaceSoul
Revival: Hold Back

Here’s some fairly smooth rapping over soul and horns. And you know how I am about horns. It’s Beat Rabbi and DeepSpace5 and “DeepSpaceSoul.”

Direct link for the feedreaders.

That’s the title track from their 2008 album. It’s available in both MP3 and CD formats from Amazon. The MP3 version is a few bucks less.

This is The Revival Hour and a nice track that just keeps on building and layering on more thick sonic goodness. I dig it, anyway. It’s “Hold Back.”

The single’s available digitally from their official site.
