32 Days of Halloween VII, Day 29: The Monolith Monsters!

Monolith Monsters

Killer rocks are the main course this evening. But first, anytime Saturday Night Live manages to be sublimely funny is a rare occasion that must be celebrated. And yes, you’re going to see this everywhere. But there’s a reason. It’s brilliant. And Edward Norton proves yet again what a masterful actor he is. Seriously.

And because we haven’t paid your friend and mine, The Neil, a visit this year…here he is doing a live reading of one of my favorite short works of his: this is “The Day the Saucers Came.”

That, of course, is available in his collection Fragile Things. Which you should own regardless.

And last but not terribly refined, we go to 1957 and another scenario in which aliens come to kick our asses. But not just any old aliens–this time we have rocky monoliths bursting from the ground and in search of water. Terrifying. Enjoy.

Best way to find it on DVD is via The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collections, Vols. 1 & 2, where it shares space with nine other gems. Pricey, but fun all the same.
