32 Days of Halloween XI, Day 22: Devils of Darkness!

Devils of Darkness

Tonight, first of all…Hollywood Canteen was based on an actual place setup for military servicefolks where they could get in for free by wearing their uniform. The film came out in 1944 and the two cameos you have here are the tip of the iceberg. But seeing these two together again is, of course, priceless.

And this is what I was looking for when I ran across the above: it’s Sydney Greenstreet doing a reading of Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado.”

Now for tonight’s feature film, we go to 1965 and Devils of Darkness, and this admonition: when the guy’s surname is Sinistre, then you know there’s going to be trouble. It’s vampires, devil worshippers, and murder…all delivered in under an hour and a half. Enjoy!

  • The best place to find Hollywood Canteen is on Amazon Prime Video.
  • The Greenstreet reading of Poe is included with Amazon Music Unlimited, or the MP3 of the album is available for under $4.
  • Devils of Darkness is available included with Amazon Prime or to rent for just $.99.
