In Remembrance of Harold Sunshine

Harold Sunshine

In remembrance of our behind the scene supporter (really, he kept me on top of watching all the shows I reported on and movies–in fact he would ask if I had my recommendations and topics for podcast night), we repost my reading of “Casey at the Bat.” He was a major baseball fan and also taught literature and the humanities, so I went to him for help with the poem’s cadence and inflections when I recorded this for National Poetry Month. In addition, he knew the importance of Need Coffee and DragonCon to me. He was a veritable Charlie from Charlie’s Angels.

32 Days of Halloween VI, Movie Night No. 8: The Dark Secret of Harvest Home

Bette Davis in The Dark Secret of Harvest Home

We’ve hit Movie Night #8 of 32 Days of Halloween, so welcome to another installment of “Rox of Spazhouse Presents.” And we go to the 1978 miniseries (here in its three-hour form) The Dark Secret of Harvest Home. Rox was inspired to locate this after our recent walk down memory lane regarding TV miniseries on Weekend Justice. She caught it on the first run, she tells me, and ranks it up there with a Halloween III: Season of the Witch level of goodness.

Basically a “family moves out into the country and gets wrapped up in pagan mayhem” sort of tale, it features Bette Davis. And for the record, just as a pro/safety tip…if Bette Davis is ever the matriarch of any society you encounter, then run. Just freaking run. It’s based on the book Harvest Home by Tom Tryon, which Rox also read. Enjoy.

DragonCon 2011: The Light Fantastic: The Worlds of Terry Pratchett

Terry Pratchett

We delve once more into the archives of DragonCon 2011 and bring you something from the British Media track. It’s a panel devoted to Sir Terry Pratchett and features our own Rox of Spazhouse, Caro (our own Bob the Zombie), Angela (the one with the confession to make), Lars Pearson and a young man whose name I couldn’t catch. If that’s you, show yourself!

Anyway, much of how people came to Pratchett, how the Venn diagrams for Neil Fans and Terry Fans play out, and fun with characters and dialogue.
