09.20.09 by Widge @ 3:01 pm ![]() *Not* ScottC ScottC, head of the Needcoffee Archaeological Society, is in charge of the project to get old content from its boring original HTML form and into WordPress. Here are some things that were freed with a few blows of his mighty pick axe. (Which sounds like a euphemism...but is not.) Categorized as: Admin

09.10.09 by Widge @ 2:15 pm ![]() Moments after this picture was taken, Shatner and Nimoy's entourage of security ninjas descended upon us. We barely escaped with our lives. Normal posting is starting to return. But a moment to recover and recap from the madness that is DragonCon, however. Categorized as: Admin

08.01.09 by Widge @ 5:19 am ![]() Spelunking through eleven years of previous posts continues, with ScottC and myself digging through. Here's some bits that have now gone from boring static HTML to glorious sparkly WordPress.

07.28.09 by Widge @ 4:35 am Hi folks. The utterly true story of how I spent thirteen years thinking I had something medically wrong with me and it turns out I don't. I share this story in the hopes that it can be of use to somebody. Warning: video is a true and serious story and may or may not have snippets of humor. Categorized as: Admin

07.25.09 by Widge @ 5:05 pm ![]() In an effort to drag our ten years' worth of archives kicking and screaming into the cold unblinking light of the 21st Century (remember, the site's been around for 11+ years), ScottC has been spearheading the effort to get a bunch of pages converted into WordPress from their original HTML versions. The oldest from this batch is from 1998. We've pulled up the Harry Potter reviews, including both the movie review and DVD review of Sorcerer's Stone and the DVD review for Chamber of Secrets. We have two movie reviews for it, from myself and Catalyst. And we've pulled up--trying to get our array of Trek stuff into WordPress--the DVD reviews for Voyage Home, Final Frontier and Nemesis. And in the random department, both the movie reviews for Robert Downey Jr. in Two Girls in a Guy and Russell Crowe in The Insider have been updated as well. Categorized as: Admin

07.17.09 by Widge @ 3:37 am So some of you thought that a shorter version of the video might be better for sharing with others. Your wish is our suggestion. Here's a shorter version of me explaining the membership options and why we're doing this. Direct link for the feedreaders. Please share this on your Twitter, your Facebook, StumbleUpon, Digg, whatever you have going. The faster we reach our goal, the faster we can get started on creating even more content and dismantling ads. Thanks, amigos. Categorized as: Admin

07.10.09 by Widge @ 5:14 am You can watch the video there to the right--or click here if you're in a feedreader--to get the details and my explanation for what's occurring now. Or you can get the gist right here: The survey that we conducted a couple of weeks back--the one I said was important, remember?--helped us to make some decisions about the future of Needcoffee. And based on your input, we have figured out a way to accomplish the top two things you wanted: more content and less ads. So we are offering up Needcoffee.com memberships (think PBS--but coffee mugs instead of totebags--you're welcome) that will fund us getting the time and resources to create that content and also to do so with no ads. So if we hit our funding goal, the content ramps up and the ads go away. We will become the World's 1st 100% Reader-Supported Website (named Needcoffee.com). Please click on the link below to choose your membership level and then send this to everyone you know via e-mail, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, Facebook, carrier pigeon, smoke signals, etc. The more people hear about this, the faster we can reach our goal, and the sooner we can get rid of these pesky ads that you don't want and also bring you some really cool content that you do want. Thanks in advance for your help. ![]() Categorized as: Admin

07.03.09 by Widge @ 1:34 pm ![]() The Needcoffee.com Reader Survey closes at midnight tonight. And Hellpuppy Kora just heard a vicious rumor that you haven't taken it yet. So she instructed us, her human handlers, to use her powers of cuteness to instruct you to take the survey. Because otherwise, the puppy will be sad. And would you make a puppy sad? What sort of a heartless bastard are you? Yes, it's true...she does want to nom your soul into slobbery bits, but that's no reason to make her make the sad face, is it? I knew you'd understand. You can find the survey here. I thank you. And Kora thanks you. Categorized as: Admin

06.28.09 by Widge @ 4:30 am ![]() Don't make me use this. (I mean the inflatable moose head behind me, of course.) No, really, I'm serious. As serious as I have ever been and the doctor says I'll get over it and be back to normal eventually. I need your brain. I need to know what's going on in that mind of yours re: Needcoffee. Because I'm about to start doing some serious cogitations about the future of the site, and it's no good unless I get your input. It's a short survey. It'll take maybe 2 or 3 minutes. (There aren't any trick questions.) And I would greatly appreciate it, if for no other reason than staging that photo was a pain because that chainsaw was not light. Thanks in advance for your help, gazpachos. Categorized as: Admin

03.20.09 by Widge @ 8:59 am ![]() We tend to think of The Unique Geek guys as The Justice Society to our Weekend Justice League--not because they're older than we are (certainly not on a maturity level) and not because Serv wears that shiny salad bowl with the wings on it almost all the time--but because they were doing that whole group podcast thing first. Anyway, closing tabs here: one of their recent episodes was an interview of me by Ron. I guess everybody important they had already interviewed. And ScottC was there to...I don't know, referee? Regardless, "thrill" to me meandering my way through the simplest of questions (about Red Nose, Needcoffee, entertainment and I even sneak a book plug or two in) in their podcast interview here, if you so desire.
