Comments on this: none yet. Add your own. Our American readers know that with the onset of another year comes another round of W-2s, 1099s, 1040s and all manner of paperwork that takes our money and gives it to the government so they can waste/lose vast amounts of it. The old saying about death and taxes is true, so we shan't bitch more about it, because that's pointless. What we will point out is that while part of the American way is to shovel money at the government, the other part of the American way is to look on the bright side even when things are crap. So it is in this spirit that we let you know that we're now affiliates of TurboTax. If you're going to buy TurboTax or snag it online, then you can do so here and we get kickbacks. So while none of us are happy about the time wasted between now and April 15th, at least we can make the most of it and spread some money around between ourselves, yes? Yes. Categorized as: Admin

Comments on this: 7 so far. Add your own. ![]() Okay, folks. It's that time again: the 2008 Bloggies. For those just joining us, we won the Best Kept Secret Weblog Award back in 2006, thanks to caffeinated weasels like yourself. This was extremely cool. We would like to win another award, frankly, and I'll tell you why--and I hope you know by now that I try to be as straight-up with you guys as I can. First, and obviously, it's cool to win awards. There's not much you can get at this level of blogging apart from recognition. So getting that recognition is very satisfying. Second, we're trying to move to the next level of blogging. A large part of that is being able to make enough money at this to support ourselves through the website so we can do more on the website. We are giving that a serious go in 2008. We want to go pro, in other words. We've been doing this in one form or another for ten freaking years. It's time to take it to the next level or go home. (In other words, you get to see a huge success happen over the next year, or a spectacular flame-out and failure--either way, you'll be entertained, we hope.) Now, I try not to ask for things from you, our readers. Not unless you get something out of the deal as well. Because let's face it: asking for favors is a bit awkward. And unless something's in your best interest to do, then why would you do it, favor or not? The context we use for asking you to buy things through us is that you're doing it anyway--so no skin off your nose and we get a kickback. That sort of thing. But, if you're here and you've read this far into this post, you probably like Needcoffee.com. You probably enjoy the sort of madness that we try to bring you here. And I can tell you that if we were able to get some day jobs killed around here, there would be a lot more for you to read and do on this site. So it is in the light of you helping yourself that I ask you: please...go and nominate Needcoffee.com for the 2008 Bloggies. Winning one of these bad boys--hell, even getting nominated--would do a great deal to help us down our path of world domination. Categories for which we are eligible: Best American Weblog (Note: Even though we try to not be terribly America-centric, we are still eligible. That being said, if there are any worldwide writers who want to come on board, I'd love to hear from you.) Most Humorous Weblog (Note: This is not us thinking that we're incredibly funny, it's frankly that because we blog about anything and everything, we simply don't fit in most of the other categories--so if you think about it, that's kinda funny) Best Group Weblog (Note: Even though I do a lot of a writing on here myself, since I have no life, we do have a staff of talented madmen, so we qualify) Best Kept Secret Weblog (Note: Yes, we've won this--but no, we're not making a lot of money yet--so yes, I think we're still sadly a secret) Weblog of the Year (Note: No way in hell we're going to win this, but like we always say: shoot for the moon and if you miss you'll careen through a soundless vacuum for all of eternity) You'll need to give them your e-mail address so they can make sure you're not doing multiple entries from the same address and they request you nominate at least three websites total. I'm sure you read other blogs, so that won't be a problem. The deadline is 10:00 PM EST on Friday, January 11, 2008. Thanks for your help on this, folks. Categorized as: Admin

Comments on this: just one. Add your own. ![]() Chazz is absolutely right. The URL Needcoffee.com was first registered in 1998. It is now 2008. And even I, the English Major, know enough maths to figure out that's an excuse for a year-long party. (As if we need a lot of help with that--after all, we stretched out Halloween for over a month and Christmas for nearly a fortnight.) We have decreed that 2008 will be The Year of Kicking Ass, even if the only asses we kick wind up being our own. More details as we invent them. Back to your depressants and/or stimulants of choice. We just wanted to strike while the iron was hot, so to speak. We'll try and have some hangover-friendly content up shortly for when you come back to your senses. Happy new year, everybody. And happy freaking birthday to us. Siege is going to light ten random things on fire, Dindrane will rush in with the fire extinguisher, and then we'll all make a wish. Categorized as: Admin

Comments on this: none yet. Add your own. ![]() Jesus Christ, it's been a big year. We've laid the foundation for some stuff that will hopefully start paying off in 2008. Expect to see announcements about that very soon. We've made some huge changes. We launched two new sites, The Daily Kicksplode and Colors Are Overrated. One caters to the lovers of mindless violence and being punched in the nose and the other is for people who have an appreciation of the color black. Do give them a peek, would you? Also, we've moved Needcoffee to its own server. This is a huge step because now we can have control over everything and run whatever we want on the site without fear of bogging down our 1/1345th of a server we were on previously. So we've tried to add some functionality to things and bring back features (like comments) that had gone the way of all flesh because we simply didn't have the horsepower previously. As always, I appreciate any feedback on these crazy things that we're doing and even if I don't respond personally (because my inbox hovers at around 4000 e-mails on any given day) I do read every e-mail I get and anything constructive is duly noted. And just for the record, I know you probably think what I think when you hear somebody say that they read every e-mail ("Yeah, right") but honest. No shit. I do. Why do you think I always look so frigging tired? Anyway, as I said, 2007 was laying the groundwork for some other stuff. 2008 will be even better. Seriously, thanks to everybody who helped make this a great (or at least survivable) year for Needcoffee. Thanks to everyone who supported us by buying stuff through the site and thanks to everybody who linked us from their own sites. Both actions are not only helpful but prove you to be people operating from a wealth of intelligence, not to mention good taste. I don't know where all of you maniacs come from, but I'm glad you're here and I have no idea why we haven't scared you away yet. We promise to be even more frightening in the new year. And now, let's take a look at the year that was. Starting with the Most Popular Non-Contest Posts of Each Month. Categorized as: Admin
