10.04.07 by Widge @ 11:45 pm ![]() First up we've got The Best of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Vol. 2, from Classic Media. Breaking off from full season boxed sets (the third season was released in 2005), we now get three-for single discs, this one containing three full adventures from the fourth and fifth seasons. Unfortunately, the cartoon was meant to be broken up into chapters with in-between bits in place--these interstitials are AWOL. As a result, you run into a problem that I've had with this and also Danger Mouse--I'm seeing a rehash of a plot that I just left, so I don't need the rehash in the first place. As I've suggested elsewhere, there needs to be a way to play them without recaps. Of course, the best thing to do would be to just release the full seasons. Let's hope that's still on the horizon. No special features. (Click here to buy it from Amazon.) Categorized as: Animation

10.01.07 by Widge @ 3:32 am Mark Evanier points out this first commercial, in which Yogi Bear meets Big Otis, the supposedly herculean Scot pitchman for Kellogg's OKs. Mark tells you the backstory, so just go read his bit for the whole shmeal, but suffice to say I'd really like David O'Hara's character from Braveheart to take Otis' place. Categorized as: Animation

09.30.07 by Widge @ 12:01 am That's right. Halloween has burst from the casements of October. I have decreed that thirty-one days is simply not enough to celebrate the coolest holiday out there. Thus, Halloween has invaded September and claimed September 30th for itself. We now have thirty-two days to celebrate. Thus begins the 32 Days of Halloween. It all begins here with this classic Mickey Mouse bit from 1929. Direct link for the feedreaders. Categorized as: Animation

09.29.07 by Widge @ 1:22 am What can you do with a canvas made up of 150 shirts and an intern? I know, it sounds like a very obscure dirty joke. But no. You can make a stop-motion commercial for a sandwich shop that's actually pretty sweet. Well, you could. But it's a lot easier to just watch this one from Erbert and Gerbert's Subs and Clubs, because it's already done. Direct link for the feedreaders. Make sure you go to their website where they've got a making-of video online. Categorized as: Animation
