12.27.07 by Widge @ 12:30 am The person at VideoSift who posted this calls it Chuck Jones' best cartoon, and it's sort of hard to argue. Once you get into the best of Chuck Jones, it's hard to put them into any sense of order. I just love his stuff. And is there anyone who doesn't remember poor Marc Antony's wailing and gnashing of teeth from this? Just priceless. Direct link for the feedreaders. This is available on DVD in the Looney Tunes Golden Collection, Vol. 1. With commentary. Click here to buy it from Amazon. Categorized as: Animation

12.25.07 by Widge @ 6:57 am The Neil provided a great present for his fans: an extraordinarily tasty snippet of the movie Coraline: This is directed by Henry Selick (who did, among other things, Nightmare Before Christmas) and stars the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Keith David, Ian McShane and French & Saunders. If you have not read the original book, you owe it yourself to buy it now. It's probably the best YA dark fantasy/horror book I've ever read. You can read my review of it here. 12.20.07 by Widge @ 8:00 pm Kids, don't try this at home. In reality, you'd be better off with something like this, methinks. With proper parental supervision, to be sure. Categorized as: Animation

12.18.07 by Widge @ 7:26 am ![]() We're big fans of Pixar around here. Something even most casual fans of Pixar know is that there's so much in the way of self-referential stuff in their movies, that it's almost a Pixarverse you're dealing with. There's the old man who appears in "Geri's Game" and Toy Story 2 and the oil company from Toy Story is the racing sponsor in Cars--these are two of the more obvious ones. But how much have you been paying attention? Jim Hill over at Jim Hill Media certainly put us in our place. When it comes to spotting references, we're still strictly amateur league. 12.15.07 by Widge @ 7:00 am Ah, the magic that is Thurl Ravenscroft. Yes, he sang the Grinch. He also was Tony the Tiger. And he also did a crapload of other music that I didn't know about until I caught the Thurl Ravenscroft Festival over at WFMU. Categorized as: Animation
