07.17.08 by Widge @ 11:26 pm ![]() Needcoffee Irregular Rox of Spaz-House just sent this over--and man, it's brilliant. Wine glasses based on the Seven Deadly Sins by artist Kacper Hamilton. And here's the best part: you don't have to remove your fingerprints to use them! Pictured is Wrath. The others are just as wonderfully mental. Even moreso. They are "Handmade in England," the page says. And a limited edition that you can order in a sweet case. The price is available upon request, which is art-speak for "Too expensive for you, friend." 07.10.08 by Widge @ 2:30 am ![]() So...HentaiCon 2008 opens this weekend! Kidding. DeviantArtist FilthyLuker does inflatable art installations. As you can see, they are with a great badassness. This building is listed as having tentacular cancer. A terminal case, it might be construed. Go see the rest of FL's stuff here, like...AHHH SHIT! KITE-EATING TREE! Found via Boing Boing. Thanks to Rox, Spaz-House ambassador to Needcoffee, for the headsup. Categorized as: Art

07.02.08 by Widge @ 7:04 pm ![]() This might just be the art movement of 2008. If nothing else, it's guaranteed to be better than whatever wins the Turner Prize this year. Categorized as: Art

06.14.08 by Widge @ 4:36 am ![]() There seems to be a rash of stuff being hidden in and around peoples' homes. Some vaguely sinister and some amusingly deranged. But this one is certifiably cool as hell. A family wanted to take the Fifth Avenue apartment they had just bought and have it redone, but not in a "cookie cutter" sort of way. They couldn't have picked better, apparently: Eric Clough, designer, took the place and turned it into a giant (but pleasant) puzzle that needed to be sorted out. It involves a book, a musical score, keys, crossword puzzles, more keys, and magnets. It sounds positively brilliant. I think cryptoarchitecture kicks ass and I think we need more of it. Imagine if you went to a school where the school itself was part of some massive puzzle and each year another piece of it is revealed by the students figuring stuff out. Imagine spending a bit of time relaxing on the weekend by wrapping your mind around the newest layer of mystery in your house, rather than just trying to figure out how to get that bedroom door to stay shut properly (unless that's a clue). Hell, I want my redesigned Technocave to have a hidden staircase already...this is making my mind do somersaults. Categorized as: Art

06.07.08 by Widge @ 9:20 pm ![]() Matt Cipov is yet another artist who dabbles in one of our favorite schools of art: Morbid Whimsy. And his site is like an amusement park: there's stuff for sale, there's plenty of art ranging from the realistic and detailed to the stylized and demented. Take this "Agent," for example. Cipov says, "I happened to draw a fellow selling hands... but who knows whatelse he may have for sale." Nice. And in a bonus section, he has PDF-ready printable zombie, wolf and zebra masks, plus more. You can check out his website here. Categorized as: Art
