Diesel Wall
Posted on 07.05.06 by Widge @ 2:47 am

The Cool Hunter points us to something rather nifty: Diesel--yes, the clothing label--holds a contest to turn a wall on their headquarters into art. There's plenty of examples on Cool Hunter as well as in the gallery. Check out the Diesel website for more details.

And yes, that's supposed to be the Pope in the picture there. Nice.

Arthur Ganson's Wishbone: And We Won't Pretend Not to Mind...
Posted on 06.07.06 by Widge @ 11:09 pm

Arthur Ganson is an artist who makes machines (a.k.a. kinetic sculptures) that are just mesmerizingly bizarre and wonderful. The first one, and this post's namesake, is "Machine With Wishbone," and we found it via Neatorama. But once we got started, well, we just couldn't stop. Following "Wishbone" are three others we found on YouTube. These things are like Lay's Potato Chips, we just couldn't stop with one.

Frampton's Got Figments
Posted on 05.30.06 by Widge @ 9:42 pm

You know, it's funny that I ran across this now while I'm reading a recent interview with Paul Levitz in the recent issue of Write Now!. In it, he proved me right about how DC Comics has abandoned kids. He talked about how kids were such a tiny part of their audience.

Yeah, it's funny how that works. Publish books that no kid would want to read and the amount of kids buying your books goes down. Stunning.

Anyway, one of the people who obviously thinks that's crap and is taking pains to get kids to read comics is Otis Frampton, whose Chazzie-nominated Oddly Normal is a great story for kids and it won't cause an allergic reaction in adults. I haven't seen the trade paperback yet, but I believe it's due out, so to be on the safe side, snag it from the Viper Comics site. That page also has the first chapter online in its entirety. Go. Enjoy. Throw coin at their heads.

The reason I bring up Mr. Frampton at this point in time is because I ran across his blog and his nice series of Figments that he puts on the site usually twice a week. I picked my personal favorite for the image here. They're kind of like Michel Gagné on lithium. Very nice.

Robot Squid!
Posted on 05.21.06 by Widge @ 9:42 pm

Yeah, for some reason fire and squid seem to be a running theme today. Dunno.

Anyway, Nemomatic is the site by Nemo Gould (who is secretly also Moriarty Gould as I have learned--mooha) where he recycles bits into robots that can actually light and move and whatnot. The squid you see here is just the tip of the iceberg, go to his website to see a crapload more plus videos of them in action. Awesome.

Cthulhu leather mask

Definitely not something you see everyday: a Cthulhu leather mask, wings, and claws! For those of you with a thing for non-Euclidean domination that will drive you mad, I guess you should rejoice.

For the rest of us, we can just dig on the dude's leather dragon bag. It went for over a thousand bucks on eBay. De-amn.

Found via Neatorama.
