05.07.08 by Widge @ 1:27 am ![]() That's right: nothing says relax and let the worries of the week fall away like taking some spa time in a compartmentalized giant skull. There's a bath in the neck, sauna in the head and the thing spurts steam from its eye sockets. Joep van Lieshout about the Wellness Skull: "The heavenly power is the big unknown, the death of the hereafter, the skull of physical shell of the mind. The earthly power is a economical power, money plays an important role on our contemporary society. Gradually the faith loses all importance and is replaced by an alternative 'self experience', through travelling, sporting and wellness centres."
Which is all well and good, but I'm just joyous about what this will do--aeons from now, when we are all dead and gone--to the evolutionary biologists of the future. Categorized as: Art

05.04.08 by Widge @ 2:36 pm ![]() Ken sent this over: a group of artists who make badass models out of steel. Some of their work is pretty spot on and cool. And, since we were talking about the Gremlins, they have Gremlins. They also have Doctor Who's Daleks, Gundams, Terminators, and naturally, Godzilla. Though in all metal, Godzilla looks like he's been taken over by the Technarchy (which is a bit of fan fiction that, I must admit, might be fun to read). Categorized as: Art

04.26.08 by Widge @ 4:10 am ![]() Darren Di Lieto has gotten his work in print...through no fault of his own...and in precisely the wrong way. Luc Latulippe explains on his blog: "Turns out someone scraped the contents of his website and published it into a 350-page book being sold online for $100." Suck factor is definitely high, as the resellers refuse to pull the book and the thing has a fake ISBN and the publisher appears to be fake and the distributor is incommunicado. So they've taken the word to the blogosphere. We found it at the Lady Porphyre's place, who found it via Uncle Warren. Now that you know, pass it on. And, you know, don't buy the book. 04.01.08 by Widge @ 2:33 am ![]() I'm Learning to Share! has posted a great array of Charles Folkard illustrations from a 1921 copy of Songs From Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass that his mother owned. That's the site that previously turned us onto Alice Illustrations Other Than Tenniel, so you can consider this an expansion on that idea with even more illos than Other Than Tenniel provides. 03.15.08 by Widge @ 4:47 am ![]() AlexCF is at it again. This time he's created a badass kit for dealing with any pesky nosferatus that might be lurking around your home and/or business. Or, in the case of the person who commissioned this: your 12th century mansion. I guess if you couldn't manage an 11th century one then that dreary new-fangled 12th century one will simply have to suffice. Ahem. Per the man himself: The case is a large victorian box, very pretty. Contained within is a flint lock pistol, a letter from the previous owner, a bible, rosary, and four grenade-like holy water bottles. the romanian crucifix in the lid is sharpened to a point, and the plethora of hunting aparatus are semi hidden under a wooden lid, the underneath of which is emblazoned with a map of europe, and a small religious icon of st thomas.
