Sam Weber Illustrations

Some excellent stuff here. For some reason a lot of it reminds me of what would happen if you spliced together the DNA of Kent Williams and Amano. All the haunted reflection and movement of the first with all the ethereal fantasy elements of the second. I dig it.

700 Zombies! Hell Yes!
Posted on 03.17.07 by Widge @ 8:47 am

After illustrating John Hodgman's 700 Hoboes, those wacky artist types want to do more. According to Boing Boing, they're working on 700 categories of 700 entries each. Maniacs. While the 700 Underwear Clad Vigilante Mutants list sounds fascinating, you know what we've got to go with: 700 Zombies. Check out the images as they show up here.

Pictured: Jawboneradio's interpretation of "Mmrgh," #13 on the list.

Thomas Scott Kuebler: Amazing, Astounding, Absolutely Alive
Posted on 03.15.07 by Widge @ 9:59 pm

A long-time creature creator and robotics animator, Tom Kuebler now concentrates on making life-size sculptures of freaky looking types as well as more famous creatures like Frankenstein's Monster. It's kinda like what would have happened if Maxwell Gaines had been the one to create Madame Tussauds.

Benedict Radcliffe: Car With the Worst Safety Record Ever
Posted on 03.13.07 by Widge @ 12:50 am

Benedict Radcliffe's wire car

Okay, well, no--not really. It's a full-sized wire frame sculpture of a car. And while Winding Road talks about it being Wonder Woman's Wondermobile, forget that--Automan, anyone?

Update: Link is dead. Find more info here instead.

Rosemarie Fiore: Retro Arcade Art
Posted on 02.17.07 by Widge @ 3:21 pm

Rosemarie Fiore takes time lapse photos of vintage arcade games. That one pictured is Gyruss. How many folks even remember Gyruss? Anyway, not only are they pretty damn cool, but they kinda remind me of that three hour long psychedelic sequence in the middle of 2001.

Hello Kitty Tarot: Awww, The Tower's So Cute
Posted on 02.03.07 by Widge @ 5:03 am

Well, anything that can possibly have Hello Kitty on it has had Hello Kitty on it. Even, apparently, the tarot. Yes, it's an entire deck with Hello Kitty characters. Sadly, I couldn't actually find a picture of the Tower, although we can assume that even the ultimate symbol of destruction and change is cute because, well, it's freaking Hello Kitty.

This is also out of print and going for eBay right now for $200. So. Sorry, Din.

Leather Cthulhu mask

Je-sus. It's like what would have happened if H.R. Giger had developed the Cenobites.

Each Game of Meat Chess Means There's One Less Nice Sandwich Left to Be Made
Posted on 01.17.07 by Widge @ 11:48 pm

Yes, it's a work of art called "cutting_board," where a chessboard is made from steaks sliced into squares. Video of butchers considering their next move plays out on displays. At least that's what they say. Me, I think the butchers are thinking, "How am I going to get to that meat with me trapped in this display? There must be a way!"

Daniel Dociu: Gloriously Whacked Sci-Fi Art
Posted on 12.28.06 by Widge @ 7:51 pm

Daniel Dociu

The Beat clues us into the artwork of Daniel Dociu, and honestly, Heidi MacDonald's description of the man's work is better than anything we could drum up: "His work has a kind of Jawa explosion/rainy night in Hong Kong/ruined hydroponic tank feeling to it."

Indeed. Check it out.
