04.29.07 by Widge @ 3:49 am ![]() Most excellent artist Michel Gagné gives you a tour through what the animal kingdom would look like if they has been cruelly exposed to a thirty-six hour American Idol marathon. Of course, that being a bad idea is about the only thing PETA and I agree on. So. No, but seriously, the book Frenzied Fauna is now out of print, so Gagné is sharing by putting the whole thing online. Nice. For those who aren't familiar with Gagné's work, you probably already know him by the brilliant short, "Prelude to Eden," included after the break... Categorized as: Books and Stimuli

04.25.07 by Widge @ 7:56 am ![]() National Poetry Month. Now that we're out of the embeddable video business, I can point you to what is probably my favorite poetry reading ever. We're talking ever. When I first heard this 1958 Caedmon reading of Pound's, where he delivers "Moeurs Contemporaines," I almost drove off the road at "She is a LADY." It is freaking priceless. Please listen. In fact, there's a slew of audio Pound here. You can buy this on the Caedmon Poetry Collection, which features a crapload of other poets as well. Excellent stuff. Categorized as: Books

04.08.07 by Widge @ 11:16 pm LeVar Burton putting poor Kermit on the spot about his reading material. It's funny: I was in Borders a couple of days ago and ran into a woman there with her son. She was buying him more books and urging him to re-read some of the ones he had because she "couldn't keep him in books." After he ran off to look at more books, she looked at me and said, "There are worse problems than having a reader as a kid." I just said, "Congratulations." I refrained from saying, "Spawn more often, we need more like him," though I came pretty damn close. Categorized as: Books and Stimuli

03.21.07 by Widge @ 12:15 am Yes, that's right...as being discussed on the Gabfest (along with Radcliffe's theatrical debut--cough), the seventh and last Harry Potter book is slated to hit July 21st. And we're all going to wind up with a copy--so you might as well pre-order it from Amazon. Why? Because it's $19 pre-ordered through Amazon. And we get kickbacks. What more can we say? Update: The deluxe edition is now available for pre-order as well. You can snag that here. Categorized as: Books and Headsup
