So tomorrow we wave a fond goodbye to Worldwide Caffeine Appreciation Month, which we founded as a counterpoint to another caffeine attention thing for this month. That event is just a crass commercial disguised as a health awareness campaign. While we have no problems with crass commercialism per se, any crass commercialism on this site is extremely blatant in the interests of full disclosure. In fact, we tag it as "How much for the wimmin?" to make it really, really obvious. Which if you don't catch that reference, go back and watch Blues Brothers again. (You should do that annually anyway, it's like having your cholesterol checked.) Where was I? Oh yes. Categorized as: Caffeine

So as part of the continuing celebration, here's a great guide to how you can get the most out of your caffeine consumption. Now, as always, know your limits. The sort of caffeine I consume isn't for everybody, so when the guide talks about hitting yourself with about 600mg, don't do that if you shouldn't. And if you have no self control, like these kids, then caffeine isn't for you anyway. Okay? Let's be awake and safe out there. Categorized as: Caffeine

But all it takes is about three minutes of research and you figure that that's been done to put coffee down, and...how conveniently...put a coffee substitute in its place, not to mention the books you can buy to back up the research. So whatever. We hereby declare March as Worldwide Caffeine Appreciation Month. Why worldwide? Because we've got readers on six continents (we'd love seven...anyone know anybody doing research on #7?) and caffeine is universal, baby! And we don't need to write a book to support caffeine--caffeine supports us! So. Take this opportunity to let your caffeine know you appreciate everything it does for you. Like this. But basically Kentucky is looking to ban the sales of energy drinks to minors, because minors are too stupid to understand their limits or read nutrition facts or anything like that. Speaking as someone who attended public schools in Alabama, this is probably a valid concern, but is still a bit insulting to those kids who have managed to independently learn how to read or just lucked out and got a good teacher. Anyway. I'll let you read the whole thing but here's some lovely snippets: State Rep. Danny Ford (R-Mt. Vernon) said he introduced the bill "for the safety of the children." Right. Because it's easier to legislate than it is to teach kids the critical thinking necessary to ingest stimulants wisely. Got it. Ford said a student from Brodhead, Ky., inspired the bill when he related his experience with an energy drink for a contest called "It ought to be a law." The contest should have been called, apparently, "Admit That You're a Dumbass." And the winner of this contest gets...more government! Well done! Categorized as: Caffeine
