That's right, ladies, back in the day there was nothing that kept your husband from screwing one of those trollops at work quite like Folgers instant coffee. Also, I can't help but think that he didn't kiss her goodbye to begin with because coffee breath can be...well, rather off-putting. Another one of these gems after the break. Categorized as: Coffee

Comments on this: none yet. Add your own. ![]() So recently Neil Gaiman--or as we call him in shorthand around here, "The Neil"--discovered to his amazement that he was a novelty coffee item in Indonesia. After The Neil Indonesian Coffee Incident (which is yet another great name for a band...Neil's Dog is Not a Bushel is another one that's upcoming) was picked up by The Guardian, Neil was wondering about what a true Gaiman coffee might entail. So after two evenings of smacking stuff around the Needcoffee Alchemy Labs and--ahem--consuming a lot of "failed" experiments, I'm throwing this out there: the coffee drink known as The Neil. Comments on this: just one. Add your own. ![]() Okay, I keep getting sent this so it's obvious I need to write it up. But it's not news: coffee is your friend. Coffee can save your life while driving. Coffee can save your skin, literally. But now coffee can save your brain. And I don't know about you, but my brain could use some saving. Here's the shot: the article says that "Middle-aged people who drink moderate amounts of coffee significantly reduce their risk of developing Alzheimer's disease." This came from researchers in Sweden and Finland, the country where I quite want to be. If you drink between three and five cups a day, they tell us, you can lower your chances of Alzheimer's between 60 and 65%. Now if you drink between three and five, then you're drinking four--even the English Major knows that. I don't know why they just didn't come out and say that. But regardless. How do we know they know this? Because apparently they were following up with over 1400 people in Finland over the course of twenty-plus years. How does it do this? They think...maybe antioxidants? But they're not sure. But don't overindulge because you can hallucinate, apparently--which probably explains why I see so many glow in the dark elves. Oh, and drinking over five cups apparently didn't add any benefits against dementia. And now you know. And knowing is half the battle. But the other half is kicking ass. Categorized as: Coffee

Comments on this: 2 so far. Add your own. ![]() Okay, this might have been painfully obvious to everyone but me--it wouldn't be the first time that's happened--but sitting here in Starbucks this morning I was stymied by a broken process. How do you get the two promised free hours of Starbucks from your Starbucks gold card? You've already registered, now what? If you check out the FAQ, it says you have to register for a free AT&T WiFi account and then you can login. Of course, you have to have used your card in the last thirty days--no problems here. But where the hell do you register for this legendary WiFi account? The guys at the Starbucks, while friendly and helpful, didn't know that there was a step missing. And the obvious thing--stick the link in the answer to the question in the FAQ--nobody had done. So. After some trial and error, for those who had run into same problem as me and are sitting in a Starbucks going WTF WTF, here you go. This is current as of today. You know they might change the site setup any minute, so YMMV. Also, this assumes that you've got your Starbucks Gold card registered. That happens at StarbucksGold.com. (I've included both the instructions on how to navigate and direct links for where I wound up...so if this does get changed, you might be able to find your way even if it gets broken.)
