03.11.07 by Widge @ 4:02 am ![]() Boing Boing points out a really cheeseball comic adaptation of William Gibson's Neuromancer, the grandfather tome of cyberpunk. This is impressive: I had never heard of this, and the 80s is when I was scary into comics. Gibson responded to Boing Boing about this, and yeah: the art is kinda sad. Categorized as: Comics

03.05.07 by Widge @ 9:06 pm ![]() Sometimes I miss doing full-on comic reviews. And then I read something like Chris, over at his Invincible Super-Blog, where he beats the comic Banzai Girl with a metal yardstick...and I know true peace: Essentially, it's the late-night Cinemax version of Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld, but starring Space Cheerleader Jinky, who rolls around in a "liquid metal battlesuit" blowing things up with a space-bazooka, which inevitably causes her skirt to blow up and reveal her Liquid Metal Battlethong™. Amazingly, this is actually less fun to read than it sounds. Awesome. Read the whole thing. Categorized as: Comics and Stimuli

02.28.07 by Widge @ 11:30 pm ![]() The inevitable Kyle Baker pointed out a bit of work he did a while back, in which he told a portion of Batman's secret origin that they somehow conveniently left out of the movie. Categorized as: Comics

02.13.07 by Widge @ 5:49 pm ![]() I'm offering this shirt for a limited time. In multiple colors. And for the ladies, too. Oh, and in answer to this ridiculous crap, DC's thing about Captain Atom being the new Monarch? It's all a ruse. In the end, the new Monarch will be revealed to really be Ambush Bug. No shit. 01.30.07 by Widge @ 11:33 am ![]() This is impressive. The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky has a guide to what elements have appeared in comic books, along with the pages that they appeared on. Not every element has gotten featured, however. A little known Marvel Team-Up between Spidey and the element fermium was planned for issue #151 back in 1985, but when that title got canned, so did the story. Oh well. Better luck next time. 01.27.07 by Widge @ 3:43 am Man, this brings back memories of when Marvel Comics were worth every penny you paid for them: about twelve cents. Hey, wait...brand new Marvel Comics these days are worth about twelve cents too! What a coinkydink. Categorized as: Comics

01.17.07 by Widge @ 11:15 pm ![]() The late, great Dave Cockrum was a comic book artist who is best known for his work on X-Men, long before that title took a nosedive into the Sarlacc Pit of eternal suck. This is not news. But did you know that he did a lot of design work for Aurora models? We're talking dinosaurs and famous movie monsters and such? I sure as hell didn't. Comic Book Resources grabbed an interview with Cockrum on the subject from 1995 and that's now online here. Categorized as: Comics and Stimuli
