Neil Gaiman's Babycakes: And We Used Them
Posted on 10.05.06 by Widge @ 5:57 am
Neil Gaiman's Babycakes

Sore Eyes points us to an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's short story, "Babycakes."

Let's just say that it's even more disturbing when there's pictures to go along with it. Not for the faint of heart. And not for Scott.

Check it out here.

The story's originally from Neil's Smoke and Mirrors. You can buy that here. There's also an audio version on the two CD set, Warning: Contains Language. Buy that here.

Marvel Running Out of Covers to Zombify
Posted on 09.26.06 by Widge @ 8:49 pm

Marvel Zombies hardcover second printing Amazing Spider-Man #316

Marvel has just released information about the hardcover of Marvel Zombies selling out. I say good for two-time Chazzie nominee Robert Kirkman, because he kicks ass.

However, the second printing, while sporting a nice Venom/Spidey face-off, didn't ring any bells with me. It turns out "it's an all-new zombie-tribute cover to Amazing Spider-Man #316 by Suydam."

Sandman Absolute Edition Available for Pre-Order
Posted on 09.25.06 by Widge @ 11:51 am

Okay, look. Let's just be honest with one another, right? The Absolute Edition of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, which reprints the first twenty issues of the series, looks positively badass. Not only is it ultrahuge, hardcover and slipcased, but it features new and improved coloring on the first eighteen issues (approved by Gaiman and the creative crew) plus bonus bits: for example, the script for "Midsummer Night's Dream," the only comic story in history to win a World Fantasy Award. Or at least it was last time I checked, since they changed the rules to exclude comics shortly afterwards and I never heard if they ever changed them back. There's also Vess' original pencils for the issue and more.

Why am I telling you this?

Because you, like me, are going to break down and buy this. It's just a fact. So why not buy it through the site and get us some kickbacks? You win, we win, everybody who's important in this equation wins. Thankee.

Marvel Babies: The Latest Idea From the Shack of Shite
Posted on 08.30.06 by Widge @ 3:42 am
Marvel Babies

If you ever needed proof that Marvel has downgraded from their previous moniker of "The House of Ideas," then this is it. Jeff Lange over at Jim Hill Media went into the sanity-testing hell that is the 2006 Licensing Show and survived. He also brought back pictures. And Baby Hulk isn't the worst of it. Click to see more.

Forget "The Baby Stooges" which appear on that page...Marvel has decided to go the way of Muppet Babies and bring you Marvel Babies.

The questions that arise from such a dumbass idea are fairly limitless: will Baby Wolvie have claws that pop from his hands? Or will they be spoons? Will Baby Hulk have a mental crisis and spawn Baby Grey Hulk? Will Baby Gwen Stacy fall out of a crib and...and...aw, man, that's not right. That's just not right.

Just Imagine: Stan Lee's Watchmen: Don't Be a Pinko!
Posted on 08.25.06 by Widge @ 9:14 pm
Stan Lee's Watchmen

The DC Comics project a while back where they let Stan Lee revamp their characters for a series of one shots was hilariously bad. I mean bad. When you've got Batman fighting a villain called Handz--that's crap on toast right there, folks.

Kevin Church has taken the concept and performed a brand new bit of sacrilege: what if Stan the Man reworked Moore and Gibbons' Watchmen?

Just keep telling yourself: it's only a joke. It's only a joke.

P.S. How do you know when your childhood is over? When you realize that Stan's promise of "Mile a minute, non-stop action!" means that the thing's only going to be going 60 mph.
