11.23.07 by Widge @ 9:07 pm Comments on this: one. Add your own. ![]() Halo 3 is out, and there's lots of people who lost a month of their lives starting from about the end of September. A tremendous timesuck and, as Doc has mentioned, entertainment fundsuck, it's pretty impressive. Will it end the world as some have postulated? Who can say? What I can say is that we've got a Kubrick Master Chief Collection here. And as you can see, you get Blue, Red and Green flavors, along with Predator mode, or as you gamers would call it, "Active Camo" mode. Anyway, you can win them here. Proceed to get a chance to do so. 11.22.07 by Cosette @ 12:15 am Comments on this: nada. Add your own. We first learned about George R.R. Martin when we began upon the epic journey that is his A Song of Ice and Fire series, which is badass. We've given our analysis of some of the things you learn from the series here. (If you haven't started it, begin with A Game of Thrones. You'll thank us.) Martin, though, has been a prolific fantasy and sci-fi writer for decades. Dreamsongs is a collection of his earlier works, mostly short stories, and in volume one, mostly sci-fi. This audiobook includes previously unpublished pieces and features seven different readers, including Adrian Paul (of the Highlander series) and one of our favorite voice talents ever, Roy Dotrice (who has read three of the four existing audiobooks of A Song of Ice and Fire--he ranks up there with Jim Dale, reader of the Harry Potter series--he's that good). Having whipped through all fifteen hours of this audiobook on a road trip recently, I can heartily recommend these stories. If you, like us, have been jonesing for more George R.R. Martin to tide you over until the next installment in the epic fantasy is released, you need to enter to win a copy of Dreamsongs, Volume 1, right here, right now. Categorized as: Contests

11.19.07 by Cosette @ 8:52 pm Comments on this: 9. Add your own. ![]() Time to feel old (again), because this year, as you might recall, is the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. As a result, the folks at Kotobukiya, maker of badass models, have come up with a beautiful special edition snap-together model, or as they put it, an Artfx statue. This model was inspired by the designs of Ralph McQuarrie, conceptual artist on the Star Wars films, name known to geeks everywhere. The famous lightsaber battle from the first film in the original trilogy comes alive in 3D, with Luke's added breathing apparatus that never made it to the film (but would later be needed by anyone who saw the prequel trilogy). Want to commemorate your favorite space opera with a kick-ass model from Japan? Proceed! P.S. Did we mention this thing will run you, in some circles, about $200? Yeah. Categorized as: Contests

11.10.07 by Widge @ 3:40 am Comments on this: 2. Add your own. You like The Beatles, don't you? Of course. Because all of our readers have exquisite taste and realize the importance of this band to the history of music in general. Naturally. Well, if you like The Beatles then check out this book from Ken Mansfield: The White Book. The full title is The White Book: The Beatles, the Bands, the Biz: An Insider's Look at an Era. Insider, you might ask? Yeah, he was the US manager for Apple Records. He's also worked with a huge range of folks: eveyrbody from Lou Rawls to Judy Garland to The Beach Boys to Don Ho. So he's been around a bit. So when somebody like that says he's going to go behind the scenes and take you with him, then it's certainly worth perking up one's ears over. Also worth noting is that the book is chocked full of pics to go along with the stories, and all the editions come numbered. So, nice, yes? Yes. For more info, check out the official site. Also nice is that we happen to have five copies here to give away. Yes, now I have your full attention. If you want to win one for your very own, please proceed. Categorized as: Contests

11.02.07 by Widge @ 10:00 am Comments on this: nada. Add your own. ![]() Because you requested it--okay, maybe not you specifically, but some people have e-mailed me about this--I'm moving the Mystery Box Contest out to posts instead of the page where it was, so it can be easier to get to. So here it is. What is the Mystery Box? Well, it's a box. Filled with stuff. What stuff, you might well ask. You must win to find out. That's just how it rolls. Well, it doesn't actually roll, seeing as how it's a box. But I'm sure there's some metaphorical rolling happening somewhere. So. Rules and entry after the break. Categorized as: Contests
