Inspector Clouseau!

Because you requested it--okay, maybe not you specifically, but some people have e-mailed me about this--I'm moving the Mystery Box Contest out to posts instead of the page where it was, so it can be easier to get to.

So here it is. What is the Mystery Box?

Well, it's a box. Filled with stuff. What stuff, you might well ask. You must win to find out. That's just how it rolls.

Well, it doesn't actually roll, seeing as how it's a box. But I'm sure there's some metaphorical rolling happening somewhere. So. Rules and entry after the break.

Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth in Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, and Shekhar Kapur return for the sequel we never thought we would see: ELIZABETH 2: REIGN HARDER.

Okay, no, sorry: it's called THE GOLDEN AGE. And showing up this time is Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh and Samantha Morton as Mary Stuart. It opens this coming weekend, and we can't wait. We hope Blanchett gets the Oscar Miramax stole from her and gave to Gwyneth Paltrow.

Not that we didn't like Shakespeare in Love. I loved it. But I mean...come on.

Contest: Win Classic Joe Cocker

Joe Cocker: Classic Cocker CD cover art

I've mentioned before that nobody covers the Beatles like Joe Cocker. Hell, nobody covers any songs like Joe Cocker. He's the equivalent of vocal napalm, destroying all comers. Not only are his versions of "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" and "With a Little Help From My Friends" totally badass, but he positively bitchslaps The Box Tops' "The Letter" and I won't say that his version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" kicks all asses (but it stands tall next to Nina Simone and The Animals, so all is well).

Anyway, why am I telling you all this? It must mean there's a contest brewing. Yes. Yes, there is.

We've got a copy of the CD/DVD Classic Cocker to give away. Want it? You must enter...

Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn CD cover art

Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Their first album, it's filled with classic whacked out tracks like "Bike," "Astronomy Domine," and "Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk." Now EMI has released a pretty swank special three-disc edition of Piper.

You get the album remastered for stereo and also remastered for mono as well. That's your first two discs. You also get a third disc which the Floydian hardcore will own most of already: "Arnold Layne," "Paintbox," "See Emily Play" and more. There are some tracks that, to my knowledge anyway, haven't been seen before: a "French Edit" of "Interstellar Overdrive," a stereo version of "Apples and Oranges," an alternate version of "Matilda Mother" and "Take 6" of "Interstellar Overdrive."
