Okay, so...wrestling. Let me tell you what I know about wrestling. I was sitting in the hotel room at San Diego Comic-Con many, many moons ago. And flipping through the channels on television. Anytime I do this, it can be very dangerous, because I never watch television, so it's damn near hypnotic. So I flipped over to wrestling. And was doubly hyp-mo-tized. There were huge men on the screen, with torsos the size of VW bugs screaming hoarsely at each other and beating on chairs and things. After several minutes of this, we spent the rest of the weekend screaming at each other in what we termed "WrestleSpeak." It was really, really...dumb. But fun. So.

What were we talking about? Oh yes, Royal Rumble. Here's what they have to say for themselves:

At the "Royal Rumble," 30 men enter the ring in an over-the-top-rope free-for-all for a chance at a title shot on the biggest stage of them all: WrestleMania® 24. In a match between current and former World Heavyweight Champions, Edge® attempts to defend his title against Rey Mysterio®, the master of the 619. Jeff Hardy™ battles to wrest the WWE title from current champion, Randy Orton®. United States Champion MVP™ seeks to secure his place in history by ending the career of the Nature Boy™, Ric Flair®, while Chris Jericho® looks to remove the thorn in his side known as JBL™. The 2008 Royal Rumble® also marks the return of former WWE Champion John Cena.

The Royal Rumble DVD will feature all of the event matches in their entirety as well as bonus matches, interviews and exclusive behind-the-scenes clips.

So we've got the Needcoffee.com™ 2008 Royal Rumble® Contest™. Where you can enter to win, and myself®, Doc Ezra™, Siege®, Tuffley®® and Dindrane®™™®™ will draw a name from a hat--and that person wins! And that person becomes the property of Major League Baseball™. We're kidding about that last part.

For more info you can check out WWE's website here. Otherwise, get to entering!

2008 Rose Bowl Game on ESPN DVD Cover Art

Okay, so: football. I've heard of it. It's that sport where you use the club, isn't it?

Anyway, ESPN is releasing a "commemorative DVD" of the event where the USC Trojans went up against the Fighting Illini. Here's what they have to say for themselves:

In addition to the complete game, The 2008 Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi features exclusive bonus content, including a touching tribute to USC placekicker Mario Danelo, who tragically died just days after USC's 2007 Rose Bowl win. Plus, work out with Rose Bowl Offensive MVP John David Booty, as he takes viewers through his personal training regimen, and get post-game analysis with the ESPN GameDay crew, Lee Corso, Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit.

So if you want to snag a copy for yourself, I happen to have three of them here. And could be persuaded to hand one over...if you win the contest. That's just how it works around here. So enter already.

Win Nightmare Detective on DVD!
Posted on 02.24.08 by Widge @ 3:49 am
Nightmare Detective DVD cover art

So what happens when suicides aren't suicides at all, but something sinister enough to warrant DVD cover art with a naked woman's back on it? I'll tell you what happens: Nightmare Detective happens, out from The Weinstein Company. Here's what they tell us:

Investigating a rash of mysterious suicides, a female detective finds a curious link between the deaths: each of the victims had dialed 'O' on their cell phones almost immediately before taking their own lives. As she discovers more about the bizarre deaths and their chilling connection, the young cop enlists the aid of a fellow detective who shares the killer’s ability to enter people’s dreams… but she soon realizes that she must face her own fears if she is to prevent further murders.

So who is "O"? Well, this is his story.

Wait, was that funny?

Whether it was or not, that doesn't change the fact we've got a copy here to give away. So if J-Horror is your thing, you might want to give this a go.

Win a Signed Dock Walloper #1
Posted on 02.23.08 by Widge @ 4:52 am
Dock Walloper #1 cover art

Who or what is the Dock Walloper? Well, the easy answer is this: a comic book from Virgin Comics created by actor/director Edward Burns, written by Jimmy Palmiotti, with art by Siju Thomas. The dictionary says a dock walloper is "a casual laborer about docks or wharves." But the alternate definition, from Burns, Palmiotti and Thomas, is a guy nicknamed "The Hand" in New York City in the 1920s who's got...wait for it...an abnormally large hand that he can use to beat your ass if called for.

John "The Hand" Smith's "massive right hand is nearly twice as large as his left, and when push comes to shove, you'd pity anyone that gets in his way."

Of course you would! Look at that artwork! You get shoved by that hand, you might go through a wall! Criminy!

Smith is the star of the comic, a five-issue miniseries. And we have two copies of the first issue to give away. But not just regular copies--copies signed by scribe Jimmy Palmiotti.

Want to win? You know the drill...

You can enter below to win, but bear in mind: if you enter the contest, you will be automagically signed up for Virgin Comics' Newsletter. That's just the way this contest rolls. If you have a problem with this, don't enter. Hokay? Hokay.

Win Resident Evil: Extinction on Region 2 Blu-Ray DVD!

Resident Evil: Extinction Region 2 Blu-Ray DVD cover art

That's right, folks. Double duty--win it on DVD or win it on Blu-Ray DVD. And these are both Region 2, so they're open to a good chunk of the world's citizens. And we want all of them to visit us here.

Well, I've already talked about how the first film wounded me terribly even though Milla vs. The Zombies is a great notion just on its own. But adding Ali Larter from Heroes to the cast of zed-kickers doesn't hurt things.

On this release, you get pretty much the same as the regular edition: deleted scenes; a sneak peek at Degeneration, the CG-animated feature; an audio commentary with scribe Paul W.S. Anderson and his fellow producer Jeremy Bolt; and a mini-slew of making-of featurettes--but there is, from what I can tell, one featurette exclusive to the Blu-Ray.

Make sure you check out the official site here.
