12.14.07 by Cosette @ 7:03 am ![]() Who doesn't have a soft spot for Old Blue Eyes? Well, now you can win his honeyed tones in an 80-track CD box set from Sony. Eighty freaking tracks, people. Not only have they included songs from 1939-1952 from multiple studios, but also included are essays by Nancy Sinatra in the liner notes of each of the four discs. Here's what Sony has to say about Frank Sinatra: A Voice in Time: For the first time in history, the merger of Sony Music and BMG Music enables the production of a deluxe four-CD box set to encompass Frank Sinatra's music on the first formative record labels of his career, Columbia, Brunswick, Bluebird, and Victor. Contained are 80 songs – among them two impossibly rare previously unreleased alternate takes ("From The Bottom Of My Heart" with Harry James in 1939; and "All The Things You Are" in 1945) and 11 previously unreleased radio airchecks spanning 1943-52 (from such shows as Songs By Sinatra, The Vimms Vitamin Show, and Lucky Strike's Your Hit Parade). 12.12.07 by Widge @ 5:23 am ![]() ![]() So you're crazy about Johnny Depp? Who isn't these days? He's great fun to watch in great films (the first Pirates) and great fun to watch in crap films (the third Pirates), but regardless he's a damn good actor. Here's the 2002 appearance by Depp on Inside the Actors Studio. At fifty minutes or so in length, you're not going to get an in-depth interview or anything, but it's nice to have on DVD regardless. Wait, what's this? You don't have it on DVD? Well, because we love you, we've got two spare copies lying about...and they're not doing anyone any good lying around here. Want to win them? Good, because we could use the shelf space. PROCEED... Categorized as: Contests

12.09.07 by Widge @ 7:21 am Yes, we're giving away some Dean Martin Christmas music. But in this contest, he's bringing some buddies with him. Reinforcements, if you will. Mr. Frank Sinatra and Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. And they're bringing the Xmas music. In addition to some of the tracks from the Dino Christmas album, you've got Sinatra doing "The First Noel" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" with Davis providing his take on "Jingle Bells" and "Christmas Time All Over the World." Now. This, too, is a Xmas Blitz Contest. Seven days to win. Seven chances to enter. You can enter once a day. And remember: don't be surprised by our contests--subscribe to our RSS feed and get the jump on them. Categorized as: Contests

12.06.07 by Widge @ 9:50 pm Dean Martin. Actor. Singer. Funny guy. Old school cool frood. And, surprisingly, one of those singers whose Xmas songs haven't been played into the ground. You know what I'm talking about: you hear a song kick in for the five-hundredth time in Publix during this fine holiday season, and you get the urge to bludgeon people to death with one of those billy club-sized candy canes. But Dino doesn't get overplayed, so that's why his "Silver Bells," "Blue Christmas," and "Let It Snow3" are more than tolerable when you need something family friendly to listen to around the Xmas food trough. And hey, we're going to do a Xmas Blitz Contest and give you a copy so you can give the boot to tired songs and go for the classy stuff. Get to it and enter here! Seven days only! Starting...now!
