04.06.08 by Widge @ 9:42 pm ![]() Okay, so sometimes I think of things that I can't possibly use and nobody seems to know how I get paid for having thoughts like this, so here you go: free idea for whoever and I get this out of my head. I started thinking about an ad campaign for Rockstar Energy Drink, distributed in some areas by Coca-Cola. A series of five 60-second internet commercials that either appear as video ads or you stick them on YouTube and try to get them viral. They tell an ongoing story about the P.S.I., the Party Scene Investigation squad. They are a group of stiff, very serious government agent types are constantly one step behind another group of party goers, who are having a good time acting up and living life to the fullest--fueled of course by Rockstar Energy Drinks of various flavors. With the PSI's involvement they're treating the scene of each party like a crime scene. Using detectors to look for remnants of Rockstar, or empty cans, like a strange cross between Men in Black and CSI. At the end of the series, it's revealed that a well-known rock star (which in my head is Steve Tyler of Aerosmith--we'd have to have a Revolution X joke in there somewhere) is behind the PSI, trying to stop the party. Because after all, if anybody can party like a rock star, what’s the point in actually being a rock star? First commercial follows and is not formatted properly as a script would be because Wordpress works hell on tabs. Categorized as: Drinks

04.04.08 by Widge @ 10:04 pm ![]() Okay, so here's something interesting: Red Bull is known for their energy drink. And for being what Uncle Warren has running through his veins. But now they're branching out: they're introducing a cola. But not just any cola. A natural cola. According to the bit on their website, the cola will have nary a bit of phosphoric acid, preservatives or artificial flavors. 100% natural, they say, with flavors "derived from both the Kola nut and Coca leaf, ingredients in the original colas." It gets its caffeine from coffee beans. Fascinating. I'll get my hands on one and let you know about it as soon as I can. Unfortunately, we have received confirmation that the cans do not have a bluish glow around them as pictured. Too bad. Categorized as: Drinks

04.04.08 by Widge @ 2:07 am ![]() The Unique Geek are following up our Caffeine Appreciation Month with Geek Beer Month. They have declared it and thus it is so. They explain their rationale for each entry. For example, for Rogue Chocolate Stout, "What Makes Is It Geek?: There is a girl on the bottle, it's made with imported chocolate, and it is bottled by a company named Rogue." Fair enough. 04.01.08 by Widge @ 3:13 am ![]() The good news is that the press release is dated yesterday, so I don't think they're pulling our legs. Starting March 31st and running through August 2nd, a new limited edition flavor is hitting Chick-Fil-A milkshakes: coffee caramel. From said release: "Starting and stopping a product offer can be a tricky art, but if you do it right, you'll enjoy long-term benefits from creating demand for a product that's only available for a short time by bringing added attention to a particular category of your menu," said Woody Faulk, Chick-fil-A's vice president of brand development. "Our first limited flavor [Mint Cookies and Cream] milkshake was a tremendous success in terms of generating overall awareness of our line of milkshakes, and we anticipate our Coffee Caramel Milkshake will be equally successful."
As with its standard line of flavors, the Coffee Caramel Milkshake is hand-spun with Chick-fil-A's popular "home-style" Icedream(R) and topped with light whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. The Coffee Caramel Milkshake will be offered in a 20 oz. cup and is priced at $2.89 each (at most locations). There's a Chick-Fil-A location around the corner from here. This will give me an excuse to use the best movie tie-in swag I will probably see all year. More on that in a bit. Categorized as: Drinks

03.26.08 by Widge @ 3:29 am ![]() BevNet reports that Bawls is expanding its line of drinks. From the same people who brought you not only tasty guarana goodness in blue bottles but also numerous snickers among college males, they're coming out with a caffeinated root beer: G33k B33r. It's supposed to hit April 1st, but we hope this isn't a joke (anything that even mentions the words April 1st is suspect online). And we hope it's got all the root beer taste but yet with the kick we've come to expect from Bawls. Would be nice to have the words "root beer float" take on a completely different meaning.
