10.08.05 by Widge @ 2:22 am ![]() Review: It takes a lot to really get my attention when it comes to caffeinated beverages. I mean I've consumed more caffeine so far in my lifetime than most people will during their entire span. I am a caffeine achiever. But when you come out and boast that you've got a drink that has 294mg of caffeine in it, you definitely have my attention. Let me put that in perspective for those of you who don't, like I do, have Energy Fiend's caffeine database committed to memory. It's basically twice what's in a 16 oz. can of Rockstar. Twice your normal cup of coffee. More than twice what's in a Full Throttle. Three times what's in your usual shot of espresso. Almost four times what's in a Red Bull. And more than eight times what's in a can of Coke. Besides caffeine it also sports 3000mg of Taurine, 160% and 500% of your daily recommended allowance of B12 and B6, respectively. 09.13.05 by Widge @ 1:51 am ![]() Well, this sounds fascinating. Picked this up from Energy Fiend: Gleukos is a new energy drink that skips the part where your body breaks the sugar down and instead it's formulated to go straight to your bloodstream and muscles. So it's supposed to be instant energy. Press release is here. And their website is here. And if that's not enough, they're going to make powder available so you can mix your own. Ka-razy. Of course, the teasing bastards are selling them exclusively at 7-11 stores. And Coast City has none. So stay tuned. We will find some of this stuff. Categorized as: Drinks

07.27.05 by Widge @ 3:58 am ![]() Review: Probably the best of the drink sampling I purchased while wandering around Manhattan this past weekend, with only one energy drink left to consume. This puppy is a nice solid cola, but with a healthy dose of ginger and also guarana in the mix. The ginger is strong enough to be tasted and give it some bite. There's also some nice kick that goes along with it, and for a guy with my caffeine tolerance, that's impressive. It's just damn tasty, so it is. And the first drink I've found so far that I really want more of.

07.26.05 by Widge @ 1:00 am ![]() Review: This is basically exactly what it says: coffee, espresso and some carbonated water to make it soda-like. Of course, carbonation and coffee normally shouldn't mix. Even Jolt Espresso (which is also exactly what it purports to be) is nasty stuff, but you don't care because it's like a nice swift kick in the head. This, however, lacks that kick and is left as just somewhat nasty.

06.29.05 by Widge @ 11:45 pm ![]() Explanation: No, you're not hallucinating. That is a can I acquired in Tombstone, Arizona. It's apparently "prepared locally" in Tucson. And yes, it says "Doc Holiday" on it. And it's a drink. Well, was a drink. I have since finished it off. And no, I'm not sure why the second L is missing. Why did I purchase this? Because it's my duty as webmaster of this freaking asylum to try strange and weird caffeinated drinks. And considering this one says on one side of the can "Have a real blast" and on the other side it says "Double barrels of flavor," I knew this needed thorough investigation and an in-depth review. In-Depth Review: Eh. Tastes like Dr. Pepper.
