Red Bull Has a Cola

Red Bull Cola

Okay, so here's something interesting: Red Bull is known for their energy drink. And for being what Uncle Warren has running through his veins. But now they're branching out: they're introducing a cola. But not just any cola. A natural cola.

According to the bit on their website, the cola will have nary a bit of phosphoric acid, preservatives or artificial flavors. 100% natural, they say, with flavors "derived from both the Kola nut and Coca leaf, ingredients in the original colas." It gets its caffeine from coffee beans. Fascinating.

I'll get my hands on one and let you know about it as soon as I can. Unfortunately, we have received confirmation that the cans do not have a bluish glow around them as pictured. Too bad.

Geeks and Beer: A Love Story

Monty Python

The Unique Geek are following up our Caffeine Appreciation Month with Geek Beer Month. They have declared it and thus it is so.

They explain their rationale for each entry. For example, for Rogue Chocolate Stout, "What Makes Is It Geek?: There is a girl on the bottle, it's made with imported chocolate, and it is bottled by a company named Rogue." Fair enough.

Chick-Fil-A Introduces Coffee Caramel Milkshake

Chick-Fil-A

The good news is that the press release is dated yesterday, so I don't think they're pulling our legs. Starting March 31st and running through August 2nd, a new limited edition flavor is hitting Chick-Fil-A milkshakes: coffee caramel.

From said release:

"Starting and stopping a product offer can be a tricky art, but if you do it right, you'll enjoy long-term benefits from creating demand for a product that's only available for a short time by bringing added attention to a particular category of your menu," said Woody Faulk, Chick-fil-A's vice president of brand development. "Our first limited flavor [Mint Cookies and Cream] milkshake was a tremendous success in terms of generating overall awareness of our line of milkshakes, and we anticipate our Coffee Caramel Milkshake will be equally successful."

As with its standard line of flavors, the Coffee Caramel Milkshake is hand-spun with Chick-fil-A's popular "home-style" Icedream(R) and topped with light whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. The Coffee Caramel Milkshake will be offered in a 20 oz. cup and is priced at $2.89 each (at most locations).

There's a Chick-Fil-A location around the corner from here. This will give me an excuse to use the best movie tie-in swag I will probably see all year. More on that in a bit.

Bawls Announces G33k B33r

G33k B33r by Bawls

BevNet reports that Bawls is expanding its line of drinks. From the same people who brought you not only tasty guarana goodness in blue bottles but also numerous snickers among college males, they're coming out with a caffeinated root beer: G33k B33r.

It's supposed to hit April 1st, but we hope this isn't a joke (anything that even mentions the words April 1st is suspect online). And we hope it's got all the root beer taste but yet with the kick we've come to expect from Bawls. Would be nice to have the words "root beer float" take on a completely different meaning.

Kaboom Infinite Energy: Pomegranate Berry - Drink Review

Kaboom Infinite Energy: Pomegranate Berry

The good news is that this drink has no sugar added to it. The bad news is that the drink has no sugar added to it. Allow me to explain.

The fruit taste of this seems to be pretty good—you get apple, pomegranate, strawberry, pear and elderberry concentrated juices. There's also pomegranate and raspberry flavors. But where does the terrible, terrible sweet taste come from?

Now, let me make this clear: I have problems with artificial sweeteners. It's well documented that I think Splenda is the seed of Satan. But this has nothing artificial in it. I've got the culprits down to two: organic erythritol and luo han fruit concentrate. Since I've never had either before, I can't tell if it's one or the other or both together. Apparently these are both non-sugar sweeteners that have been around forever. But for those of you who enjoy the taste of artificial sweeteners like Splenda but like to be all natural, apparently you're in luck! Because every time I take a sip of this, I keep checking the ingredients list—but sucralose is still not there.

What it does have is a herbal blend of 530mg which contains some guarana extract. And I'm sure the buzz must be pretty good because I could start to feel it. But sadly, because it tastes like that—complete with the lingering bad aftertaste—I can't finish it. But if you can, more power to you.
