My Advice: Rent it.

Britain in 1940 is the only major European power left to stand against the Nazi blitzkrieg. Foreigners are being locked up, young men are joining up, and invasion is expected any day. The south coast of England is especially tense since it would probably the site of any Nazi landing. Even in these uncertain times, crime still goes on, even murder. And Chief Inspector Christopher Foyle (Kitchen) is there to investigate and find the culprit. He's helped by his plucky driver Samantha Stewart (Weeks) and his sergeant Paul Milner (Howell), who came back from the failed defense of Sweden minus one leg. Together they probe crimes that are committed in the opportunities that the war unintentionally provides, but are motivated by the fear and greed that lurks in the hearts of everyone. This will be Foyle's War.

L.A. is beginning to resemble the fifth level of Hell. The temperature is in the hundreds. The Columbian and Jamaican drug gangs are 'engaged in hostilities' to control the lucrative Los Angeles market. Lt. Mike Harrigan (Glover), along with his fellow L.A.P.D. officers, are trying to keep the peace, but the two drug cartels are more than happy to take on the police as well as each other. As Harrigan says to his new member of his squad, Jerry Lambert (Paxton), "Kid, welcome to the war".

My Advice: Try and catch it on IFC

Hollywood is always in search of a bandwagon to jump onto. Currently, comic books are being ridden for all they’re worth. Back in the early to mid 70s, it was 'blaxploitation'. The history of this genre is the subject of the documentary BaadAsssss Cinema. With the rise of the Black Power movement, the time was right for strong black characters who kicked ass, fought The Man, and made sweet love. When Sweet Sweetback's BaadAsssss Song, a movie with all the above elements and the black lead getting away from the cops, became a huge hit, Hollywood came running. Soon movies like Shaft, Coffy, Superfly, and Black Caesar were hitting the movie houses. Many black actors and film crews were getting work, but at what cost? Many black intellectuals, such as Jesse Jackson (yes, he was causing trouble back then), decried the glorification of pimps and criminals and promotion of the thug lifestyle. After a few years, the genre developed into self-parody with films like Blacula and with blacks seeing mainstream movies in greater numbers, Hollywood pulled the plug on blaxploitation. But the genre is getting a second life through the efforts of Quentin Tarantino and others. It looks like you can’t keep a good brother down.

My Advice: Run away!

One of the many clichés about high school is the popular girl: the pretty head cheerleader who's dating a cute jock (Lawrence), surrounded by a giggling girl posse, and is the biggest evil bitch in the school district. You know: the one most girls want to pin to the wall with pencils through her hands, fix her mouth shut with a staple gun, then slit her open with an Xacto knife. And we all know what most of the boys what to do her… wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
