07.01.07 by Widge @ 6:52 am ![]() So I was curious about what you fine folks are ordering from Amazon through the site. Because we have a really wacky demographic, hitting all kinds of ages and locations and whatnot. When I try to describe you, our readers, to various studios and such when they're deciding what stuff to send us to cover, they're a bit confused. But aren't we all? Anyway, so looking back over the last six months, here's the top five things you guys have ordered, listed here for your dancing and dining pleasure. #5. Heroes Season 1. As I've said before, you guys are mad for Heroes. And these are just pre-orders! Maybe when it hits on DVD (next month) I'll be able to actually watch the thing on my own time, but it's fairly obvious that the comic geeks among you crave the stuff. 06.24.07 by Widge @ 6:29 am ![]() Okay, I had Doc tie a rope around my waist so I could be yanked out if I went too far into the swag closet and got lost. Well, I came back out again clutching the following: yes, it's a copy of The Greatest American Hero on DVD. The whole shebang, in a limited edition collectible tin. $100 value. Nice. Okay, this has the whole series in it, as well as a replica-thing of the instruction manual (it doesn't have a lot of pages, but it does light up, so it's a tradeoff), a cape, and a decal. William Katt, Robert Culp, Connie Sellecca...show created by Stephen J. Cannell, who by law had to create 75% of the series during the 80s. So if you're a fan, you want this. How to win? Enter. You can even enter once a day. We're easy. Proceed. Categorized as: Contests and DVD and TV

06.20.07 by ScottC @ 6:27 pm ![]() Beastmaster: Special Edition. Dar (Marc Singer) seems like your typical barbarian hero: loincloth, broadsword, muscular physique. But no one who was born out of a cow is going to be typical. The evil priest Maax (Rip Torn) magically transported the baby Dar out of his mother's womb into the aforementioned bovine to stop some sort of prophecy. But a kindly hunter put a stop to that shit and raises the baby as his own. So Dar grows up to be a warrior Dr. Doolittle, speaking to the animals. So Dar along with two ferrets, an eagle, a panther, and an actual human girl named Kiri (Tonya Roberts) is going to kick some lawful evil cleric ass. Anchor Bay has added some new special features to this sword and sorcery flick. There's a new documentary, The Saga of the Beastmaster, which gives a comprehensive overview of the film. You also get a commentary from the production team, Don Coscarelli and Paul Pepperman, along which some decent talent biographies and photo galleries. A definite buy for those into Conan type fantasy. (Buy it from Amazon.) Categorized as: DVD and Headsup

06.17.07 by ScottC @ 1:10 am ![]() Christine: Special Edition. She's a classic lady in red with dangerous curves and a body built for sin. In Detroit. But when Arnie Cunningham finds her, she's down on her luck and a bit rusty. Arnie gives her some TLC and some serious body work and she returns this by making him a bad boy out of a James Dean movie. Problem is she's got a mean streak and she'll take out anyone who messing with her man. Or tries to get between them. For Christine, it is truly apt that she is a Plymouth Fury. Stephen King's story about a car from Hell is back with three new feturettes on taking the book to the screen, making the movie, and the impact it has made. There is a ton of deleted and alternate scenes, and a commentary from uber-director John Carpenter and the other star of the film, Keith Gordon. (Buy it from Amazon.) Children of the Corn: Divimax Edition. No good deed goes unpunished. That is certainly true for the Stantons when they try to get help for a boy after he runs out of a cornfield and in front of their car. So they go to Gatlin, a little town where the children worship some old time religion. Not Christian fundamentalism, we're talking a religion of the harvest, of blood, and of death. So Vicky (a pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton) and Burt (Peter Horton) must battle the bloodthirsty Malachai, the charismatic boy preacher Isaac, and the god they serve, He Who Walks Behind the Rows. With this new edition, there is a new documentary on the making of the film, Harvesting Horror: Children of the Corn. Also, you get a commentary with director Fritz Kiersch, producer Terrence Kirby, and actors John Franklin (Isaac) and Courtney Gains (Malachi) and a fairly impressive photo gallery. Come see the franchise that eventually convinced King he needed to pull sequel rights from his contracts with Hollywood. (Buy it from Amazon.) Categorized as: DVD and Headsup
