09.19.07 by Widge @ 12:01 am ![]() That's right, it's September 19th, and that makes it Talk Like a Pirate Day. I know there's been a lot of stuff recently about that whole Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but I'd like to point your attention to a great pirate performance: namely Walter Matthau in Roman Polanski's Pirates. Granted, the movie was crap, but Matthau was amazing. Anyway, to celebrate this annual arrrrfest, there's a list of our previous pirate-related posts after the jump: Categorized as: Events

08.26.07 by Widge @ 9:51 pm ![]() Seriously, you folks in Vancouver need to take some steps: seems like every year you guys have a zombie uprising. Then they're running through the streets, frightening the animals, eating every living thing that's not nailed down. I mean, come on. I hear they even announce when they're going to be rising ahead of time. Get with it, Vancouver. We were notified of the carnage by the Lady Porphyre. Badass black and white zombie portrait by Meg Bourne. Hey undead girl--you are not screwing around. Rock. Categorized as: Events

08.22.07 by Widge @ 11:30 pm Needcoffee.com Lifetime Achievement Award winner Ray Bradbury has his birthday today. Before we do anything else, I would urge you to go and purchase, if you have not already done so, Zen in the Art of Writing. It doesn't matter if you're a writer, painter, musician--whatever. I've never found a better book for kicking one's creativity in the ass to get it moving. In fact, even if you're not an artist of any kind, it will still be of use to you. Just trust me on this. Now, speaking of writing, Uncle Ray has some words for you. Speaking of asskicking: Direct link for the feedreaders. Yep, cuts off there at the end but I think you get the gist. Uncle Ray speaks more truth after the break... Categorized as: Events

08.20.07 by Widge @ 10:58 pm H.P. Lovecraft is 117 years young today. To celebrate, here's a bunch of Lovecraft-related goodies. First up, let's listen to The Neil give his thoughts on Howard. I think he speaks for a goodly number of us: Direct link for the feedreaders. We agree with The Neil's assessment. Lovecraft's beasties are supposed to be indescribable, so visual media dealing with the mythos are at a distinct disadvantage. However, one film we think stands above all others.
