Cold Sweat Ice Cream: Fire With a Side of Fire
Posted on 07.05.06 by Widge @ 4:44 am

Slashfood points us to (warns us about?) an ice cream parlor in North Carolina where they've created a flavor that could be construed as an affront to God and man: "Cold Sweat." What is in Cold Sweat, you ask? The article informs us:

The final version is made with a blend of Dave's Insanity Hot Sauce and Blair's Megadeath Hot Sauce, along with a secret ingredient. Chile peppers, habaneros and Thai chiles are then stirred in.

Sweet mother of the apothecary's widow. That's some crazy shit right there, folks. Be sure to read the whole article. The blow by blow of what Cold Sweat does to you, plus some of the verbiage on the waiver you have to sign to try it, make it worth the price of admission.

Fairytale Brownies: Each One a Happy Ending
Posted on 06.23.06 by Widge @ 2:47 am

Well, when I saw that Fairytale Brownies have the URL "brownies.com," I figured they must not be screwing around. So we received some to try out of curiosity because, well, it's just a public service we provide here. You're welcome.

For those of you who've had my brownies (not those kind of brownies, ya freaks), you know that they're huge, mutant monstrosities, packed with so much chocolate that they can almost be classified as weapons and are probably illegal in some states.

Fairytale Brownies, as you can see from the picture there, are much more subdued. They're not huge, they're not overly thick, because they don't need to be. They're made of Belgian chocolate and the extra bits, like the chunks (and I do mean chunks) that come in the toffee brownies, are just right. You can easily share one of these with someone else and not feel cheated, because they're damn rich. They're not overpowering, they're just...satisfying.

Review: Alice's Tea Cup, New York City

Alice's Tea Cup, New York City

So while prepping for being in NYC last weekend, there's always a need to find cool, interesting places to eat. Because fast food just doesn't cut it while on vacation, right? A great resource we've found for the area is The Girl Who Ate Everything. Since tea and Lewis Carroll are both easy things to dig, Alice's Tea Cup was a natural fit. They have a new breakfast menu, so we figured why not swing up to 73rd Street and snag the first meal of the day, plus some tea?

The theme of the restaurant is handled quite well: in true Mad Hatter fashion, the furniture and teacups and whatnot had no unifying theme. Our table was the base of a treadle sewing machine and the table next to us had a glass top over a display area with teacups and plates and such. The teacups might match...or might not. Around the walls were pictures of folks in Wonderland gear enjoying teatime, with quotes from Carroll here and there. The restroom also has a nice picture of Alice and the Red Queen, admonishing employees who neglect to wash their hands that they will lose their heads. Ambience factor was high.

Awesome: Hoffa Zombie Cupcakes
Posted on 05.27.06 by Widge @ 2:11 am

Because this is America, we'll capitalize on anything. Even an excavation in search of a missing teamster. For all the mayhem that's taking place in Milford, Michigan while the FBI digs up the place, check out the article here.

We like the cupcake because if the hand's coming up from the ground--and it's green--that means we're talking Zombie Hoffa. So, you know, cool.

Celebrate the Hamburger
Posted on 05.04.06 by Widge @ 10:18 am

May is National Hamburger Month. Every month is hamburger month as far as we're concerned, but if you need an excuse to eat something that once had a face encased in a lovely bun, we say go for it. Blame us. We're cool with that.
