There's a lot of stuff that comes out all the time, and the companies are want your attention and mostly...your coin. But, you know, it's your coin and you have to take care where you spend it. With these posts we try to take you through recent releases so you can make up your mind. If you find the info here to be of use, do us a favor and purchase stuff from Amazon through us. Especially if you were going to buy the stuff anyway. That gives us kickbacks, which help pay for things. Like the server. And coffee. And therapy. We thank you.

Need Coffee... Now Has Coffee
Posted on 08.04.11 by Widge @ 10:14 pm
Coffee Thumbs Up

This is a sign of coffee approval, not a surreal attempt at hitchhiking.

Update: Please note: last call. The window for ordering coffee for pickup at the Con closes at 11:59PM EST, Tuesday, August 16th.

When we first snagged this URL around thirteen years ago, I started getting the question. It is the number one question I am asked once I tell people the name of the site. "Oh, so you sell coffee?" And my answer has always been...no. No, we don't sell coffee. We're a pop culture website. We are just coffee enthusiasts.

If you've been listening to Weekend Justice recently, you know that we have plans now to change that. And it begins here. We are officially selling Need Coffee-branded coffee beginning...oh, about five seconds ago.

And, hey if you like generic, supermarket-brand coffee then...sorry. We can't help you with that. Because our stuff is premium. We looked far and wide to find something that we would be happy to stick our name on. And I think you'll be pleased with the results. Our initial blend is certified organic, Rainforest Alliance fair trade, shade-grown dark roasted coffee from Colombia. It'll have been roasted as close to the Con as we can and still get it there.

Threadless: Because Sometimes You Just Need a Machine That Eats Ghosts
Posted on 08.02.11 by Widge @ 9:21 am
Ghost Eater 1 from Threadless

The latest update from Threadless brings us lots of cool stuff, that we felt compelled to tell you about. This stemmed from me posting to Twitter the utterly creepy and wrong Cronenberg-on-crack "Manus Creatura" by Stuart Colebrook. This week they also have the celebratory hot rods and zombies mayhem of "Undead Joyride" by Kevin Ang (which is sadly--for my tastes, anyway--a huge design and very, very red). And for people who like to try monstrous experimentation, we recommend the cute "Monstrous Chemistry" by Tiffany Pankratz.

However, I think the prize goes for "Ghost Eater 1" by Forent Bocognani (pictured) in which scientists and mechanics appear to be putting together a giant steampunk Pac-Man. Why? Are mechanical ghosts running rampant through the land? Is there a huge crop of strange dots that needs to be consumed by something? Do I ask rhetorical questions due to an offset in my self-medication regime? Whatever. We dig it.

The only deal they have going at the moment is any state gets free shipping if you spend $60 or more. So there's that. Find more stuff here. Enjoy.

Walking Dead: First the Comic, Then the TV Show, Now the Cake

Walking Dead cake by Sweets to the Sweet

Well, we were just talking about zombies and food and t-shirts. And it only makes sense, since two of our favorite subjects are zombies and food...but especially zombies and dessert. We even did our favorite zombie cakes from around the Net a couple years back. That's why we dig the hell out of this Walking Dead cake, created by Heather of Sweets to the Sweet, a creator of badass cakes. She's done everything from Animal's head (from The Muppets) to a TARDIS and this, our personal favorite.

Threadless Sale To Wrap Up With Zombie Sandwiches
Posted on 07.04.11 by Widge @ 2:59 pm
Threadless zombie sandwich

So I know we've just done a Threadless post and about this very same sale. However, while we don't like to get repeat-happy about things, there's one editorial rule that trumps almost every other: "If it's undead and bleeds, it leads." Granted, the sandwich pictured here is probably bleeding jam if anything, but it counts. The shirt works for me on so many levels: zombies, bread (since I'm on a low carb diet, there's a special horror inherent there), and the fact the poor shambling creature is bisected and held together by a plastic bag. It's...just brilliant. Granted, it would be more brilliant on a black t-shirt, but not everything can be perfect. The shirt's proper name is "Breaaad!" by Philip Tseng and we say well done.

Also of note is a Bob-omb reimagined as a steampunky clockpunky explody thing. And what if everyone's favorite Canadian mutant was created not by Len Wein but Chuck Jones instead? Good question--answer revealed here.

More Threadless stuff is here...and remember, most shirts are $10 until 11am EST tomorrow. Enjoy.

Threadless Summer Sale All Extended Weekend!
Posted on 07.02.11 by Widge @ 1:12 am
Owl Eat Mouse from Threadless by Ben Chen

Well, it is on for the summer Threadless sale. And it's running until Tuesday, July 5th at 11am EST. And you want to get in as quickly as possible because stocks are already being depleted. Good news is that there's still a lot of great shirts (both recent and reprints) that are still in stock. Pictured is one of my favorite bits of recent sickness: Owl Eat Mouse. Also I recommend the Peanuts-inspired "AAUGH!" by Nathan W. Pyle that I think many of us can relate to. Also, please note the so-close-to-Spazhouse-lore-it's scary "Demise of Mr. Flamingo" by Adam Weber.

Kids shirts are also $10. So as I say whenever these things come up...Christmas and birthdays arrive before you know it. So stock up when it's cheap. Just saying. Happy shopping.

P.S. Lost for what to look for? Previous featured tees we've chatted about (which could be still in stock or reprinted since then) can be found here.
