03.04.11 by Dindrane @ 1:20 am ![]() I'm told "March Madness" has a different meaning for some people, but to us manga fans, it will forever have a new meaning: quality manga at an amazingly low price. Viz has always had several manga series available for reading on the iPad, but during the month of March they will be releasing dozens more. By the end of the month, they plan to have over 100 manga titles available for the iPad. Each volume you buy has the same content as a given physical volume, so your collections can dovetail perfectly. The usual cost of a single volume is $4.99, already a fantastic deal for the quality Viz editing/translation, especially compared to the usual $9.99 physical copy cost. Making things even better during March, however, each Volume 1 will cost only $.99, meaning you can afford four times the manga goodness! Volumes thus far have looked fantastic, just as good as having a physical copy in your hot little hands, making it a fantastic way to support the anime and manga industry, but still pay rent. No more excuses for illegal downloads! Honestly, the amount of cash you'll save over buying the book versions will pay for the iPad pretty soon...well, if you consume manga like I do. 03.03.11 by Dindrane @ 7:30 pm ![]() Last September, the cries of joy from Ghost in the Shell fans were heard 'round the world, as Manga Entertainment finally set a date for the release of Blu-Ray versions of all three of the Stand Alone Complex films. However, as the announced date in December 2010 came and went, the collective pain was not to be be borne. But now a new spring is dawning! Manga Entertainment has announced a new date for the release: June 21, 2011. The projected retail price for each has stayed the same, at $34.98--not bad at all for feature length films that each required so much post-production work. Wa-hoo, I say. No pre-order links on Amazon yet, but we'll keep you posted. Categorized as: Headsup

02.28.11 by ScottC @ 9:24 pm Yes again Threadless presents a couple of gems that are so perfect for a couple of Needcoffee staffers, it's a little creepy. Dindrane does not support the exploitation of animals for silly cereals, but no doubt she will show favor on this Threadless shirt: "Taste of the Wild." Seeing the animals together not eating other and showing the cooperation they will show when the Glorious Revolution begins and ends the Era of Man--this pleases her. All of you are so screwed. ![]() [[ It's So Wrong... ]] Categorized as: Headsup

02.03.11 by Widge @ 2:15 am As I said when I commented on the page for this new shirt by Ralph Pykee Lambaco on Threadless (click on the pic to go to the product page and see the whole thing), if this had been the Big Reveal at the end of the awesome Transformers 3 trailer instead of, you know, that it was another Transformers movie...then the world would be a much happier locale. But regardless of that, it still has a lovely little bit of the dark t-shirt whimsy that I find myself inexorably drawn to. Alas, the shirt isn't on sale (although a lot of shirts are), but they are having a shipping sale: $5 for any U.S. shipment, $10 international. Not sure how long this is going on for, so take advantage of it while you can. Categorized as: Headsup

01.25.11 by Widge @ 3:31 am ![]() The good news is that the new t-shirt from Threadless that has me excited, "What Lies Beneath," has nothing to do with the yawn-worthy film of the same name. Instead, it's an exploration of what exactly is going on beneath the surface of the city. Subways, yes, but all manner of creepy crawlers as well. Kinda awesome...although if bits of it glowed in the dark as well, I wouldn't be sad. An honorable mention is a truly twisted shirt in which cute cartoon animals become chimneys. Sort of like taking the Flintstones Winston commercials and running them to their logical conclusion. If that doesn't ring a bell, check it out below the break: Categorized as: Headsup

01.17.11 by Widge @ 3:15 pm This week's Threadless update gives us some fine items (even though they're not in black). There's the shirt that, to my mind anyway, puts Robert Anton Wilson in the role of Gandalf. There's the shirt that is the Threadless answer to the infamous Threads (which I've warned you away from in many a podcast appearance). And lastly, there's the glorious morbid whimsy that is "Dark Forest" by Justin White. Click on the pic to embiggen and see the full design. On one hand: animals, looking cute and lovable. On the other hand, they're dark with hollow, empty eyes. But the enchanted princess in the middle? Oh wait, she looks like she's having a bad day. And what of the large stag in the back, pronouncing the single letter "X"? It's like Walt Disney's Day of the Animals directed by Tim Burton or something. I dig it muchly. For it and more, click through to the Threadless site. And they still have their $5 clearance sale going as well. Categorized as: Headsup
