07.04.07 by Widge @ 6:33 pm ![]() Next week the new Harry Potter flick hits. July 11th. Between now and then you can win some swag. Got that? Not a lot of runway, so stay awake. What can you win? We're giving away a prize pack that consists of a theatrical poster, a teaser poster, a logo pen, a tattoo (please assume that it's a temporary tattoo even though the Warner Brothers rep didn't specify), and a tank top for women. Two other winners will snag a theatrical poster and a teaser poster. One last winner will get a theatrical poster only. So four prizes to win. But since you can only enter once a day, just eight chances to enter if you start now. So go for it. Categorized as: Contests and Movies

07.04.07 by Widge @ 5:08 pm ![]() In a move that will surely negate all of the points Jason Lee has acquired over the years, he is apparently playing Dave in an Alvin and the Chipmunks film, where the boys...well, let me just put it to you this way: don't click this. You honestly, seriously, don't want to know. My arch-nemesis Neil Cicierega could make a better Chipmunks movie than this. In his sleep. I mean, he already did a pretty good one while he was awake. (Find it on his site here.) I think we can sum up everybody's take on this after the break. Categorized as: Movies

07.02.07 by Widge @ 10:28 pm ![]() In what's probably the best promotional bit we've seen for a film in some time, certain 7-11 locations have become Kwik-E-Marts. And as you can see in that Flickr set, they sell all manner of Simpsons items: Squishees, Krusty-Os, donuts out the wazoo and more. If you don't have one in your neighborhood, don't worry: I'm sure eBay is going to be flooded with all manner of stuff from this stunt over the next few days. So you'll be able to shell out exorbitant amounts of coin to get the swag. All things being equal, though, I'd love to try/review a can of Buzz cola. So somebody hook me up, yes? 06.24.07 by Widge @ 12:52 am Home movie from 1933. I need to read a bio of Groucho, just because I'm fascinated what it must be like to have that comic madman for a father. Categorized as: Movies

06.19.07 by Widge @ 11:17 pm ![]() Our friends at Filter are back with three copies of the soundtrack to the movie Once. A modern day musical set on the streets of Dublin. Featuring Glen Hansard and his Irish band "The Frames," ONCE tells the story of a street musician and a Czech immigrant during an eventful week as they write, rehearse and record songs that reveal their unique love story. The Czech immigrant is played by musician Markéta Irglová. You can find the poster and some music videos for the film in our press release section here. If you want to win one of these copies of the soundtrack we have lounging about, I suggest you enter the contest. Categorized as: Contests and Movies and Music

05.29.07 by Widge @ 2:23 pm Mark Evanier pointed this out--so go read his site to see the full skinnee on this. But speaking of skinnee--yes, that's Oliver Hardy after losing a hundred pounds, per his doctor's orders. This is post-stroke for Stan Laurel, but pre-stroke for Hardy, and they were apparently looking at doing some work again before Hardy's health simply went past the point of no return. As Evanier and the YouTube poster point out, you could be looking at the last time they ever appeared on film together. This is very sad, in a way. But in another way--just look at them goofing about: even after everything that had happened to them, they still had it. So that's something. Categorized as: Movies

04.25.07 by Widge @ 8:38 pm ![]() Film: Written by Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright My Advice: Don't miss it. Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is the best cop in London. No, seriously. He kicks unbelievable amounts of ass. In fact, he's so far over his ass-kicking quota that his superiors (along with everyone else) has decided to shunt him into the countryside because otherwise he's going to put them all out of a job. Of course, out in said countryside, there's very little in the way of SWAT-level raids that need to be undertaken, nor do you have a great deal of stabbing going on. In fact, in Sandford--where Angel ends up--they haven't had a murder in twenty years. They...do seem to have a high number of accidents, though...but are they really accidents? Or is Angel just so used to the criminal element that he's going batshit crazy in a place where Sandford's Most Wanted is an escaped swan? Categorized as: Movies and Reviews
