10.23.05 by Widge @ 2:42 am ![]() This video has Bob Burns showing up to gab with Peter Jackson. He brings along the armature from the original Kong. It takes the full tour of the production crew for the remake, gets animated yet again, and enables Jackson to recreate a famous pose that he has the other puppet for. Too freaking cool. 10.02.05 by Widge @ 7:13 pm ![]() Film: Written by Neil Gaiman, based on a story by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean My Advice: Don't miss it. Helena (Leonidas) is a girl with a dilemma. Whereas some kids dream of living in a fantasy circus world, Helena gets it day-in, day-out...and she's bored to death with it. Of course, her mother and father (McKee and Brydon) do run a circus that's basically what would happen if Dave McKean designed a Cirque du Soleil show, so I'm sure just the constant visual stimulation would wear anybody's ass out eventually. But when her mother falls ill, Helena finds herself in a place that's pure, mainlined McKean, which is like Dali illustrating Alice in Wonderland. Helena has to figure out where she is and why she's there before the land she's arrived in is consumed by the darkness and destroyed. Categorized as: Movies and Reviews

09.19.05 by Widge @ 10:20 am ![]() Arrrrr, not to be the one to sport ill tidings on this glorious Talk Like a Pirate Day, but we've received word from the landlubbers at The Movie Blog by way of the The Disney Blog that scheduling conflicts have prevented Keith Richards from playing himself in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. So says Johnny Depp and we shan't argue with him as a source, nay. Categorized as: Movies

Directed by Terry Gilliam My Advice: Matinee. It's the early 19th Century in French Occupied Germany. Two brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm (Damon and Ledger) make their way across Europe, helping out villagers who are plagued with beasties, witches and spooks of all sorts. Well, sorta. Really they're mining Jacob's knowledge of European folklore and going to where the legends say the beasties, witches and spooks are--because chances are very good they'll find superstitious people there willing to believe anything (like, for example, Kansas) and thus, willing to pay handsomely to have their fears dispatched. Because there are people willing to pay for such services, the Grimms are justified in their minds to relieve the people of the necessary coin. Only what if it's not all just heebee jeebie bullshit? What if there's a forest somewhere in France where Some Really Weird Shit is actually going down? And what if they were...compelled (psst--it involves being on the wrong end of guns) to go there? 08.12.05 by Widge @ 1:42 pm ![]() The name of the movie is The South Will Rise Again. And the title is brilliant because it is a Southern zombie comedy. The trailer is up on their site. Go watch it now. I laughed until my right asscheek fell off. Categorized as: Movies

08.03.05 by Widge @ 9:31 am ![]() Justice is served. David Manning, as you might remember, was a fake film critic created by Sony to help them promote films that were essentially crap. Although I actually appreciated The Patriot. But the good news is if you found yourself unwittingly a pawn in their game and shelling out dough to see Hollow Man, Vertical Limit, A Knight's Tale, or The Animal in cinemas, they owe you. 07.31.05 by Widge @ 4:53 pm ![]() Written by: Caspian Treadwell-Owen Review: Losing your virginity should be a special occasion. Especially if you're losing it to Scarlett Johansson. Only trouble is, Ewan McGregor's character is, for all intents and purposes, three years old. Man, life's a bitch, ain't it? Anyway, this movie has basically the same plot as this one that I first saw on MST3K all those years ago. But it also has kickass explosions, rocket bikes, and the bastard child of Cadillac and Lamborghini. It's far from MST3K-worthy, actually not a bad film, but don't expect the best. Time: 23 seconds. 06.29.05 by Siege @ 11:03 pm ![]() Written & Directed by: George Romero Review: Wow. A modern Zombie movie, that didn't hail from Britain...and it didn't suck balls! I'm stunned. Romero held true to his previous works, and our fears were laid to rest. Now we get to start fearing the fifth movie. This one's worth seeing just for Pillsbury. You'll understand when you see it, just trust me. Time: 13 seconds Categorized as: Movies and Reviews

Written & Directed by George A. Romero My Advice: Solid matinee. Time has passed since the zombie outbreak began. What humans remain have walled and fenced in cities and hired folks with lots of guns to keep them safe. In one city, Fiddler's Green is the luxury highrise that sits at the center, overseen by Kaufman (Hopper). He controls and pays for everything, including the squads who go out into the smaller towns for supply raids. However, there's unrest in the streets, as those who aren't in Kaufman's favor are pissed at being fed table scraps. Also, the undead are getting pissed off as well... Okay, time for some history. Twenty years ago, Day of the Dead hit. It was 1985. Romero threatened a fourth movie: Twilight of the Dead. I held out hope, even after hearing about rights issues and budget issues...even when Romero was unable to get distribution for Bruiser. When I first started at Corona's Coming Attractions, that magnificent (and now very dead) website, this was the first movie page I ever drafted. So basically, I have been waiting...patiently...for twenty fucking years for this movie. And thanks to the efforts of those glorious Brits behind 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead, making zombie movies is profitable again. And here we are. Categorized as: Movies and Reviews
