Iron Design Work

Iron Man by Adi Granov

Iron Man, which made us all believe that a millionaire genius playboy could come back from near death, grow a conscience and build a badass suit of armor, is the #1 film in the country for the second weekend running. Robert Downey Jr. manages to do what all of the Marvel Comics creative staff couldn't manage: remind us that Tony Stark is supposed to be a likeable asshole, as opposed to just an asshole.

Hear that, Marvel? $342 million worldwide take means the likeable asshole wins.

Anyway, part of what makes the film kick so much ass is how cool the gear is. Adi Granov, who worked with Uncle Warren with his run on the character, has posted some of his concept work for the film. Phil Saunders has done the same with his stuff.

Iron Man (2008) - 27 Second Review

Iron Man (2008)

Written by: Mark Fergus, Matt Holloway, Art Marcum & Hawk Ostby, based on characters created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Don Heck & Larry Lieber
Directed by: Jon Favreau
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, Farin Tahir.

Review: We dared to hope, and finally, our hopes were not dashed to wailing bits on the rocks of despair, emptiness, and horrible dialogue. Downey nails the role of Stark like the daunting awesomeness of his Jericho missile. They don't skimp on the action either, as we get everything from shoulder mounted selective fire headshots, to a good old fashioned robotic uppercut which connects with a most satisfying metallic clunk. I chortled with glee through most of this, if that tells you anything.

Time: 23 seconds

Shahrukh Khan is Bollywood Spider-Man?

Shah Rukh Khan

Okay, so this is fascinating. At first I was going to give this news a pass, since when you see Bollywood Spider-Man it could mean anything. Would it be on a level with Italian Spider-Man or Japanese Spider-Man?

No...it's apparently an entirely different kind of flying...altogether. How do we know this? Shahrukh Khan is going to be Spider-Man. Shahrukh Khan is a huge freaking Bollywood star. I mean huge. And no pun intended, but apparently io9 makes mention of the fact that this Spider-Man will fly.

However, as I read the Hindustan Times article, they keep saying this is along the lines of Spider-Man rather than actually being Spider-Man. But basically they're inspired by the box office performance of the Spider-Man flicks--and the fact that the Bollywood superhero flick Krrish, as I understand it, did well.

In 1945, the Third Reich fled to the dark side of the Moon. In 2018, the Fourth Reich is back to settle the score. Don't you just hate sequels?

The name of the film is Iron Sky, and for sheer concept alone it gets points. You can check out its official site here.
