09.14.08 by Widge @ 7:15 am This is probably going to be one of those things where I'm greeted with, "Why yes, of course--you mean you didn't know that?" But no, I didn't know about the Rev. Maynard's pre-Tool band, Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty. But I will say that I agree with one of the commenters on the YouTube page: even in the midst of this 80s-tastic footage, Maynard seems to sound great. Categorized as: Music

Ken and Quick Stop Entertainment's latest round of Masters of Song Fu pits two masters against one another: Gonzo veterans Paul and Storm against MST3K veterans The Rifftones. The task is simple: make a new dance craze single based around a famous inventor. The songs are "Make Fire!" and "Do the Ballpoint!" I think you can see where this is going. Listen to both and vote for your favorite. There's the challengers too. Lots of good and interesting bits. And check out the kickass art from Len Peralta of Jawbone Radio (and *cough* Zombie in My Treehouse) as well. Categorized as: Music

09.05.08 by Widge @ 3:03 am A lot of people of my generation probably think of this first when they think of Jerry Reed. It's his appearance on The New Scooby-Doo Movies, wherein "Pretty Mary Sunlight" is repeated about 514 times. Direct link for the feedreaders. Unfortunately, this episode has not been released on DVD to my knowledge, apparently due to rights issues. So I don't feel so bad about including the whole thing here. However, the "Best of" that was released is available on DVD from Amazon. Categorized as: Music

08.14.08 by Widge @ 4:15 am Ben Folds' song "Zak and Sara" is a helluva lot of fun. And not just because of one of the character's having a crazed paranoid rant in the middle of it. But I find equally fun this music video by c_kick, where the words are just as festive as the characters. Categorized as: Music
