08.23.06 by Widge @ 3:19 am ![]() "Weird Al" Yankovic knows his stuff. "Don't Download This Song" is a perfect example of reverse psychology. And it's pretty funny to boot. It's, of course, all a crass marketing angle to promote his new album, Straight Outta Lynwood, which hits September 26. And are we going to fall for it and give you a link to his MySpace page where you can download the song? Are you kidding? He's "Weird Al" Fucking Yankovic. I've been listening to him for as long as I can remember. Go now. Pre-order his album here. Categorized as: Headsup and Music and Stimuli

08.20.06 by Widge @ 3:55 pm Yeah, I know--you're thinking to yourself for about the first minute and a half: "If I wanted Dead Can Dance, I'd just go pop in a CD, Widge, you time-wasting ass." Just wait. And think--he's doing all of that with giant coffee stirrers from McDonald's. Just damn. Categorized as: Music and Stimuli

08.19.06 by Widge @ 2:32 pm ![]() The Phoenix points us to this very amusing article in New York Magazine, regarding the punk band Care Bears on Fire. The catch? The oldest member is eleven. "See? Eleven. Right across the board." The other catch is they're doing this under their parents' coaching and with their parents' permission. What's hilarious is when, as the article relates, what rebelliousness and punk ethic there is rears its head. Like the mother's reaction when she finds out the song "Watchdog" is about her. Priceless. I would love to hear some of their music. The name alone earns them points with me. Reminds me of a sketch I saw at San Diego one year, where Alex Ross had drawn a parody of his famous Marvels cover--except instead of the Human Torch it was Winnie the Pooh, on fire, screaming and falling out of the sky. Genius. Categorized as: Music and Stimuli
